I just graduated from college and dreamed of moving into the Allston/Brighton area; however, due to the economy I recently accepted a job on a project in Pawtucket RI. Does anyone know of any areas slightly further south that may provide similar amenities for a recent college grad such as myself (bars, restaurants, bars, MBTA etc). I wouldn't mind a commute of 45-55 miles but Allston/Brighton seems a little too far.

Thanks!

PS this is the first forum I have ever posted to.

Jay, look at places along I-95. Attleboro, North Attleboro, Mansfield, Foxboro, Sharon, Walpole, etc. Sure, these are mostly suburban communities (Attleboro has a small downtown area), but they'll make it relatively easy for you to commute into Pawtucket.

Welcome to the forum world.

If the job is in Pawtucket, I'd look at Providence. It gives you the urban/college town experience on a smaller scale, and will leave you with a really easy commute. And it's not like Boston is that far away, you'll still be able to come up on weekends easily enough.

Yeah, I was going to suggest Providence too. Neighborhoods like College Hill/Thayer St. and Fox Point may have the atmosphere you are looking for.
