Moving to Bsoton- Need Advise
We may be relocating to Boston from CT. I don't know anything about the area but would like to live in the southern/western suburbs. We are looking for good schools, land (would prefer 2 acres) and our price range is between 750k-850k. Any suggestions? I have been on some real estate websites but they don't tell you much about the areas. My husband will be working in backbay and would prefer to take the train and a 45 minute commute is fine. We have a 6 month old baby so good schools are important. ANY IDEAS???

You're in Connecticut - go up there and visit and look around.

Newton, Weston, Wayland, Wellesley, Westwood, Needham, are nice areas a few miles west of Boston...

To get anything close to 2 acres you're going to have to go farther out that those towns. They're pretty much completely built out. (They do all have excellent schools). Weston has large-lot zoning, but the real estate is going to be much more expensive. A more typical lot in Wellesley or Needham might be .25 to .3 acre. Lots of teardowns lately mean lots of gigantic new houses on lots that size, so you don't get much yard. Needham or Westwood might be a little more affordable than the others.
You might want to look a little farther out, at towns like Franklin or Westborough or Southborough (all on commuter rail into town). Lots might be bigger there, too.

For 2 acres you will need to consider areas like South Mass, and Western Mass...and lots this size will be primarily limited to certain communities, and towns. And I will say it now...it will be expensive as hell. Unless you move out towards Pittsfield, or the North Adams area--and for this amount of property will most likely not be cheap anywhere in Mass.

North Adams? They might as well stay in Connecticut; husband would get to work faster from there.

Look around the Franklin, Medway, Millis, Wrentham area. Also the Sheldonville section of Wrentham is 2 acre zoning. You can catch the train from Franklin center. If you are willing to buy a resale, you can find something in those towns.
