If you scan through the threads for all fifty states you will find people b*tching about how high taxes are in their particular state-regardless of it's actual US ranking.
Boston may have some high taxes but jobs on average pay more so in the end you are coming out even with other states and ahead of others more.

To stay on track;
Boston is;
1-large enough to find your own little niche somewhere but small enough so that you don't get lost.
2-It is not as hyped up (ok, this is a matter of opinion) as the other cosmopolitan hot spots in the US.
3-There is always something to do. If you find yourself home on a Friday it is not because there is a lack of events, but because there are too many and you can't make up your mind.
4-The best seafood restaurants in the country hands down.

why is it a bad thing? people in MA aren't preoccupied w/ looks and tend to value people more for their intellgence. and I'm sure the majority of Boston women (drunken college girls excluded) can answer questions coherently, unlike a certain Miss North/South Carolina!

i did live there more than 10 yrs
and i would not go back. Less pay, too cold, old expensive small fixer upper homes, alot of old money from stuffy snobs, expensive tolls and airport tolls, dog poo and rats all over back bay, constant road work and pot holes, overpriced tickets to all sporting events, expensive parking even in malls, expensive food / drinks / dessert / bowling / pool halls, and police officers are on every corner on paid detail work making over 100 K b/c all road work requires an officer holding a free dunkin' donut styrafoam cup ahhh gotta love the politics of ole Boston ole school too ....

how the hell did this topic go from "4 things you like about Boston" to "lets list all the things we hate about Boston and MA in general?" Boston ain't perfect, but this should have been a thread to praise the good things about it, not bash it. if you don't have anything nice to say...
for me, 4+ things i loved about Boston:
-the beautiful parks
-being close to beaches, mountains, ponds, lakes, etc. w/in a few hours drive, you can tons to do, from hiking, skiing, even white water rafting
-it's progressive. love the forward thinking Bostonians have, love that this city is usually on of the the first to do something amazing (gay marriage, universal health care)
-the college atmosphere
- the amazing seafood!
lets try to stay positive folks, please

--Patriots games
--lots of old movie theatres
--Jamaica Pond

Boston's a great place to call home!
Hey, what about :
- Reasonably low tax burden
- Low unemployment
- Outstanding school system
- One of the highest paid work forces in the country
- Great sports teams
- Excellent recreational options, year-round
- You can walk almost everywhere
- Exceptional arts and cultural attractions
- World-class museums
- Marriage equality
- One of the lowest crime rates in the nation amongst well populated cities
- America's favorite city according to Travel + Leisure Magazine readers (2008)
- The weather (four distinct seasons), no devastating wild fires, floods, tornados, hurricanes, landslides, earthquakes...
- Clean air and water
- Easy access to other major cities in the US and the world
- World-class hospitals
- Awesome restaurants
- Great neighborhoods - unlike most American cities, lots of people actually live and work right in the city!
- World-class universities
- Biotechnology and medical research hub
- Highest concentration of venture capital in the US, outside of California
Boston's a great place to call home! I'm very glad to have relocated here from Chicago!

there are many more than 4, but here you go
1. The best K-12 public education system in the country (see NAEP scores)
2. The most progressive state in the country and one of the most progressive metro areas
3. The nearby mountains and Cape Cod and Islands
4. Growing tech industries
