Hi,

We're a young family currently living in NYC. We have a 2 y.o. toddler. It looks like we're going to be moving to Boulder and I've looked through the forum to gather as much info as I could. But I still have questions:

1. What's a cool/upscale neighborhood in Boulder? I don't want to be in the middle of college students but don't want to be in the 'burbs with only families either.

2. What are the best pre-K's? Are they tough to get into, or more first-com-first-served?

Really appreciate the input!

NoBo in Boulder (sometimes also referred to as the Holiday development) is pretty funky. Also, Iris Hollow off Iris Ave might worth checking out - it's quite central and close to a busy shopping area. Depends on what kind of property you're looking for and how much you want to spend and if you're renting or buying.

My favorite neighborhoods in Boulder are Whittier, Mapleton, Chautuaqua and Newlands.
You can find descriptions and photos of each here: Boulder Neighborhoods: Central, South & North Boulder Real Estate and here Boulder CO neighborhood information by Realasave.com >> Downtown Neighborhood

Thank you for giving me some initial direction. I think we'd like to rent, since our intent would be to live there about 3 years. Does that affect the neighborhoods we should check out?

I don't think so altho you might need to start checking Craigslist for rentals in those areas. There may be a local agency that handles private rentals here too but I don't know for sure.

I don't think so either, though I am not as familiar with the market as I once was. We rented in both Mapleton and Whittier before we bought a home. Best of luck!
