Just my opinion, but for any of its shortcomings I prefer a place like Longmont that grew from a historic old town, than a place like Broomfield or Westminster that's just pretty sprawling.
Very true! I think many don't know about the high tech here. And very true about the bike trails. A new one just opened up. We can now go from our house on the s.w. side all the way to the east side on a bike trail and the only street we have to cross is Nelson right after we leave our house. It's wonderful.

I moved to Portland from Fort Collins. I would probably agree somewhat with your boss. The real estate market and rental market are probably pretty similar in N. Colorado to Portland. I guess the rentals are probable cheaper in CO compared to inner Portland.

The food will be cheaper, but the produce nowhere near as good as what you get on the west coast. Energy costs probably a little more. But we used less in CO, due to better insulated homes and windows. Car fees are way cheaper (or at least they were for me). Property and income tax are cheaper, but there is sales tax, so I'd say it's a wash there.

Also, get rid of your studded tires if you have them.

Default Moving to CO

Hi I think you will really like living in CO. We live in Louisville,CO which is about 15 minutes from Boulder. it was voted #1 small city in the US a few years ago by Money magazine. Boulder Valley schools are very good, you can open enroll in any of them. You can email me if you have more questions, I also can recommend a realtor if you need one.

Dale - Yeah, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We are leaning towards renting when we first get out there. I will be working on the east side, so it looks like anywhere in the Longmont area should be convenient for work. We are also focusing in on Niwot, Erie, Firestone, Fredrick, and Mead.

Any thoughts on these areas?

Also, one thing we noticed here in Oregon is everything is electric. Do most homes in the Longmont area have natural gas for heating and cooking?

Niwot is a nice little town, but quite small. Perhaps not as small as Firestone, Frederick, and Mead. Those towns are really small and kind of out there. Niwot at least has its proximity to Boulder and Longmont. Well, I just looked up Frederick, and I guess its population is 8K which is twice the size of Niwot. But I don't know that there is much going on out there. Erie is quite suburban and not so interesting to me. Their downtown wasn't paved until fairly recently.

I'd probably look into Longmont, Louisville, Lafayette, or, if you wanted a small town, Niwot.

Whoops, sorry. Forgot to answer your other question. i think that most homes are heated by gas, and cooking is either gas or electric. We've only had electric stoves since we've been here.
