Default boulder vs. louisville vs. ?

my husband and i are looking to relocate to boulder next summer. we have a couple trips planned in the next month or so to go around with a realtor and look at areas to get an idea of where to narrow our home search down to. i am 99% certain that we will end up in boulder itself, however do not want to exclude possible opportunities in some of the surrounding suburbs, which are much less expensive for housing options.
my concern is that some of the suburbs are very family oriented and not so much what we are looking for. we are early 30s, no children (and no plans to have them), have 2 dogs, and very active in outdoor actvities (triathlons, cycling, kayaking). we enjoy going out in the evenings and being near things to do/activities in the areas.
i have heard alot of nice things about louisville but am concerned that it's not quite what we are looking for; too many children/very family oriented. not that we are opposed to this; would just rather be around people with similar interests and age.
how do boulder vs. some of the surrounding communities compare? thanks.

You would certainly fit in if you moved to Louisville. Not everyone there is a two-parent, stay-at-home mom family with school age or younger kids. There are people in Louisville who are in your demographic. There are empty-nesters in Louisville. A lot of us moved to Louisville in the early 80s, and our children are now out of the home. Yes, there are a lot of families here, but it is not almost exclusively families.
