Default Looking for private horse boarding in Boulder

Hello,

I am looking to relocate my 10 year old gelding. He is around 15.2 and very sweet. I would love to find a place close, if not in Boulder. I would love if I could find a privately owned barn with just a few horses. I am trying to stay away from large boarding facilities. A large stall with run and daily grass pasture turnout is my ideal situation. Tucker is slightly dominant but very well behaved with other horses. He loves people and is very easy to catch. At the moment he is turned out with four mares and loves every second of it! I have had tons of expericene with horses and would be glad to help out around the barn.

Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!
Thank you,
Emily

I suggest you call the folks at the tack stores in Boulder and see if they have any clients seeking boarders for your type of situation.

There are a lot of boarding facilities in the Boulder area, through to Longmont, Lyons, Erie, Niwot, etc. Some are not very big operations and may also fit your needs. Many are listed in the phone book, or can refer you on to an appropriate barn.

This has been an ongoing search. Thank you for your suggestions. I have already spoke with tack stores around Boulder. I am aware of all of the barns around Boulder but I am trying my hardest to avoid big boarding facilites as I feel there is too much drama and the care is not up to par. I was hoping that posting here could get me in touch with people in the Boulder area with horse property looking for a boarder.

Thank you for your help!

-Emily

Market Mama will become famous soon enoughMarket Mama will become famous soon enough
My husband owns a custom saddle shop in Boulder (not open in the summer because he also owns a whitewater rafting company). There are a lot fewer private horse properties in the Boulder area (his saddle customers have shifted, over the last 20 years, from 100% local to less than 30% local -- thank Goodness for the Internet!). However, if you're still looking in September, feel free to PM me and we'll post a "looking for boarding" notice by the shop's front door since we still get a lot of locals in who have a situation similar to what you are looking for. However, you may have to settle for hay year round, since year-round grass usually requires an irrigated pasture here -- and most of those have sold their water rights and/or most of their acreage.

You might also try posting a notice at the local tack auctions, feed stores (the one in Niwot is very nice), and the Boulder County Fair which starts tomorrow -- Boulder County Fair - Home You might also try contacting 4-H folks who should be easy to find at the Fair.

Default SuperTuck

Emily,
If you haven't found a place for Tucker, please give me a call. We may have the perfect place for him here at Orvilla West.

Here is our info sheet:

Located on 20 acres with panoramic mountain views, OWF is a small, family-run facility that offers “Big Barn Amenities with a Small Barn Atmosphere”. The main barn has 12 large box stalls with huge runs, automatic waterers, rubber mats and shavings. Stalls are mucked daily (except Sunday). There are three irrigated pastures for turn-out, an (75’ x 175’) outdoor arena with sand footing, a (150’ x 330’) pasture arena with grass footing, a 55’ round pen with sand footing and a 50’ x 75’ indoor arena with sand footing (expansion of indoor planned for 2007). There is limited trail riding around the property and several adjoining areas and there is an automated security gate at the entrance. Grass hay and/or alfalfa are fed 3x/day. Boarder-supplied supplements and grain are fed up to 2x/day. Horses are checked daily for injuries. Other amenities include: wash area (soon to have hot water!), heated tacking/grooming area, heated boarder tack room, surround sound stereo and wi-fi internet access. Trainers with insurance are welcome. Optional on-site clinics (centered riding, natural horsemanship, pilates, dressage etc.) are offered once a month during the warm months. We have dressage letters, poles, cavalettis, jumps and barrels. We are a fun, low-key place and we love all the horses like they were our own. Although we encourage Natural Horsemanship, all disciplines are welcome!

Thank you very much guys! I did find a place off of Niwot road that is perfect for him. He's on a huge grass pasture during the summer which is awesome.

Market Mama! I bought my very first saddle from your husband probably 6 years ago! It was a great saddle. What a small world.

Default Exercise Rider

Hi,
I just found this blog and it seemed realy friendly. I just moved to Boulder and took a riding lesson from an eventing insturctor. I was told I was too advanced for her, but I don't have my own horse currently, so..... Is anyone out there looking for an exercise rider? I ride all disciplines, have a great resume/history I can provide and excellent references. Just looking for some nice horses to ride! Or if anyone knows a dressage or jumping trainer with nice school horses, please let me know! [mod cut]
Renee

Default Horse Community in Boulder

So we need to move to Boulder and would like to replicate our current living situation if possible. Our kids are in private schools but we'd like to be in a decent district just in case--not the best but better than average. So we currently live in an equestrian community--trails, access to open space that also allows for other small livestock. Our community is very social--summer camps for kids, community theatre, weekly summer bbqs etc. Commutable to very good private schools and 'town' is minutes away if that. Is there an area like this in Boulder?
