Default Driving from Telluride to Boulder

Hi everybody,

My wife and I are driving from Telluride to Boulder around the
15th of June. Haven't driven in that area before, I am a bit unsure on what to expect. As far as I can see on Google Maps, there is some pretty fine big roads
all the way.

Is there anything I should know - any good tips out there?

Thanks in advance,

best regards
Tom

"I am a bit unsure on what to expect."

Are you looking for the most scenic route? Quickest? Do you want to stay on the highways/interstates or back roads? There are several ways to drive it, at least 3 come to mind. Perhaps if you tell us which route you plan to take we will be able to help.

Hi Neditate,

Thanks for the reply!

I am driving in to Telluride from Arizona, staying there for 5 days and then heading off to Boulder. I am not familiar with the area, and want to stay on the "bigger" highways, as I don't do a lot of mountain driving on an everyday basis.

So it doesnt have to be scenic, just fast

Thanks!

Tom

You're welcome. The quickest route is north on 550/50 to I-70. Telluride, CO to Boulder, CO - Google Maps (http://tinyurl.com/5udnn8x - broken link)

The route Neditate suggests happens to be fast and scenic. Glenwood Canyon is one of my favorite stretches of highway. Enjoy your trip.

Glenwood Canyon rocks! One of our favorite parts of the drive from CA to CO. If you have time, go visit Doc Holliday.

If you want a tremendously scenic leg stretcher, consider hiking up to Hanging Lake in Glenwood Canyon. And bring your camera!

The route along hwy. 285 to 50 is only 20 minutes longer then the I-70 route (according to Google Maps) and you'll see some less visited parts of the state. For some reason Google has both routes taking hwy. 36 to Denver and then to 70 or 285. That's something I never did when I traveled from Boulder to western Colorado. The better route is highway 93 from Boulder to Golden.
