I recently inquired about be a volunteer fire fighter opening for lafayette, the deputy told me back in Dec 2010 that to be a volunteer I needed to be NREMT basic. I then payed to enroll in his school of choice, graduated in May 2011, I just went back to the Fire House where they say now you have to go to Red Rocks for Fire Fighter One and pay for it.
To be a volunteer in Boulder County is this true?
Have I been descriminated against after meeting his first requirments but now they want more cert's.?
Volunteering is a free service , why do residents have to spend thousands of dollars to volunteer?

Are you talking about Boulder Rural? Just going to their website, I found quite a bit of info - that application says they pay for FFI:

Here's the link to the application: http://www.brfd.org/docs/Applications/BRFDHiringA.pdf

According to the main site: Boulder Rural Fire Department : Volunteers

it's very competitive and they only take so many at certain times of the year. There are no guarantees you will be allowed to volunteer even after getting all the certifications you need.

It's great you want to volunteer - but they also need to make sure that those who are doing such an important job are certified and know what they are doing.
