I'm late to this thread, but IMO - yes, it's worth it and no the wind doesn't take away. The wind can be terrible, but it's not all year or even all of spring and summer. It seemed extra windy here in April, May and early June. I was gone for most of June, but once I got back home, wind was a non-issue.

Yes ... and, No.

It's all a matter of perspective as to how seriously your intended or planned activities are affected by the storm frontal passages.

There's times where a rainstorm or snowstorm can be a charming event ... and there's times where it can be a serious hazard to your plans or safety.

Serious windstorm gusts can come through and make many outdoor activities miserable, if not impossible.

I've long been fascinated by the area around Pawnee Buttes/Grasslands. . . all those abandoned homesteads, returning to the wilderness; the grasslands prevailed. The wind won.

Makes me remember a very old film, but starring Lillian Gish, titled 'The Wind'.

Not a very compelling modern 'villian' though. Can't image Bill Paxton in combat armor shouting 'Game over, man, game over!' to a alien....breeze.

And yes Last Chance really DOES exist, my Grandfather was a Cattle Rancher, my Grandmother taught in a one room school house. Not much left these days though so I hear.
