Hi all,

I've been lurking in these forums for about a year and am finally moving to Boulder in late September. I've got 4-5 months of living expenses saved and am staying with family for the first few months while I find work and a place (I'll be looking for entry/mid-level IT support work).

So, I have a real tight budget for the foreseeable future. I'm hoping to get some local advice on the killer places to get sweet deals or tips on cheap/free events, etc. I'll be staying just east of Gunbarrel, so Longmont and other area suggestions are welcome.

I got this post idea from the Fort Collins forum, where a poster asked...

Every town has fantastic things that locals know about from having been there for a while. Sometimes it's freebies like free wifi spots, etc. Or perhaps free events. Or, perhaps it's just helpful advice like cheap but awesome local restaurants or farmers markets. Or, maybe it's free movies shown over at teh college. How about unusual things like trendy thrift shops that sell used (but cool) furniture or nifty stuff? Yes, a common theme here is cheap/free/fun - I'm gonna be on a budget when we get there, so I'm not looking for recommendations for the hottest (and most expensive) posh places.

Looking for similar for Boulder. Thanks!

There are a couple of discount furniture stores on Arapahoe east of 30th Street in Boulder as well as some consignment stores on Pearl Street and one on 9th near the library. Or you could try the Humane Society on Arapahoe. Longmont has the ubiquitous Walmart as well as Super Target. Upcoming free events include the Festival on Main in Longmont (26 Aug) or the Boulder Creek Hometown Fair over Labor Day Weekend. Default Welcome to Boulder

Welcome to Boulder, in advance of your arrival.

Boulder has a variety of neighborhoods, each unique. Along with their own places to hang out, indoors and outside.

Here's a couple of suggestions that you may be interested in:

Cafe Sole is a coffee shop/bar/deli that has wifi and a great atmosphere. There's also live music a few nights a week. [ mod cut ]

Ideal Market is another popular grocery store owned by whole foods and is walking distance from several neighborhoods including the popular Newlands neighborhood. [ mod cut ] It is also a popular meeting spot for many events

And of course there is Pearl Street. Even if you're not into shopping its a great place to meet up with friends, grab food or a drink, people watch and enjoy the views and clean flowerbeds.

There are also tons of trails and parks if you enjoy the outdoors (it is Boulder after all). Visit Do something, Learn something, Share something, Change something - Meetup for groups meeting to rock climb, ride a bike, or network with others in Boulder.
