Hi,
Apparently I need to replace my water heater fairly soon and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company that does installations? I've received one quote where they get the heater for me, do all the labour and even obtain the permits from the city (which are required where I live) but the price seems kinda high. Do you have experience of anyone that is a licensed plumber, does good work, is punctual and reliable and won't charge the earth?

Thanks

I had some friends say that they found a good plumber off of Angie's List, I've never used this site, but they were very happy with the plumbing service they received.

I think you are going to find that a good water heater, properly installed by a licensed installer, is expensive, no matter where you go. You should get an energy star to save utility costs and get some rebates from the utility provider or possiblly other programs. I got rebates from Xcel and the State Energy program when I installed it last year. It has made a difference in my utility cost.

Also I have found that if you though your heater was not adequate for your home, you will find that new heaters can recover faster, that is reheat more water to temperature in a much shorter time, so a larger unit may not be required. Newer units are much better insulated and those covering blankets are not needed and are not recommended by the manufacturers.

It seems to me a permit is always required and you may need a outside air refresh vent and my city inspector did demand an install change. If the heater is installed incorrectly than you may not wake up to know that there was problem, you will be in permanent sleep from the carbon monoxide fumes. Saving a couple hundred dollars is not worth your life.

Yes, I know all that. What I need is a recommendation for someone who knows what they're doing and will do it correctly.
