Folks,

Will be in Denver for a conference and want to get to see the beautiful parts of CO. Leaving around noon and need to get back to the airport for a morning flight. Thinking of heading towards Boulder and beyond and then returning to Boulder for dinner/hotel. Looking at the trip from Boulder to Estes Park or Boulder to Nederland. As this is mid April, are either likely to be preferable?? And when i get back to Boulder, can you suggest a place to stay?

Thanks

In terms of lodging, what's your budget and what are your tastes?

Thanks for responding... Moderate priced, no big extras in housing since it just an overnighter until we leave for the airport in the AM. For seeing the beauty is Boulder to Estes Park or Nederland preferable or must I wait to see the weather??

Thanks

Depending on how much time you want to spend in the car viewing scenery- and how much you want to be out and walking around, etc. - here is one possibility. April is an iffy month, weather-wise, so flexibility is a good thing.

Consider heading to Estes Park/Rocky Mtn National Park on Hwy 36, from Boulder up through Lyons. Then, from EP, head to Allenspark (Rt. 7) and then to Nederland on the Peak-to-Peak Highway. It's a big loop. Depending on time, etc., you could stop in Ned, then head down Boulder Canyon (Hwy 119) back to Boulder.

If I had to get up and drive to DIA the next morning, I might look at something like the LaQuinta and the other chain places off Hwy 36 in Louisville. That way, you've got Boulder behind you and you can sail to the airport. Some good deals can be had through priceline or other sites like that.

Great suggestion above. However I would recommend driving the route from Boulder to Nederland, the Peak to Peak (Hwy 72 to Hwy 7) to Estes Park then US 36 back to Boulder. The breathtaking mountain views along the Peak to Peak driving toward Estes are in front of you rather than in your rear view mirror.

Good point, Ned.
