Have never been to Boulder (or Colorado at all), but will be there for a week this summer. Can anyone recommend an area of town that would be cool for a couple (trendy type area with restaurants, shopping, good walks).
Thank you.

You probably want to stay downtown near the Pearl Street mall area. What's your budget? There's high end: St. Julien, Hotel Boulderado or less expensive within walking distance: Quality Inn, University Inn.
Here's a good guide: Boulder Hotels near Pearl Street Mall

Default Downtown Boulder Is Your Destination!

If it's in line with your budget, you could have a great time staying at the historic Hotel Boulderado, just off the Pearl Street Pedestrian Mall, where you can walk to anything and everything you would like to do. Or, you could go up even a step further money-and-luxury-wise, to the St. Julien, at the other end of the Mall. If you need something less pricey, there's all levels of lodging a bit further out, but you'll still want to hit the Downtown at some point or another.

Foot of the Mountain Motel Web Site Home Page

foot of the mountain motel is a rustic 50's era motel at the foot of the mountains on Boulder Creek and Ebin Fine Park. Not upscale but reasonable ( sub $100's) and walk to downtown and trails. Fun but not upscale..FYI

The Bradley Inn in Boulder

On our first trip out to Boulder we really enjoyed the Bradley B&B. Nice accommodations, free parking (though a possibly a bit tricky when they are busy), friendly staff, social if you want (i.e. wine & snack type diversions), and in close walking distance to downtown.

I stayed there for a week once and it's pretty cool. It feels like you're in an episode of Twin Peaks. Great location too.
