It's interesting those small towns are so different. I live in a very rural small boring town now and have to say I enjoy it even though the most lively social scene is the grocery store checkout line. What is nice is since there is nothing to do it forces you to save up and then you can go have a wonderful weekend in a big city. Wheeee! Music! Zoo! Costco!

Thanks bisou -- that's just the kind of info I'm hoping to find. I see there is a rec center in Table Mesa and a little lake to bike around. (Of course I check Google maps after each comment ;-)

I'm not sure about the rental options, but East Boulder is very family friendly too. Look in and around Arapahoe Ridge. The local elementary school (Eisenhower) is in the middle of the subdivision and there's a nice park too. Lots of families with kids. There are also a lot of families south of Baseline near the East Boulder rec center. Both areas are between Foothills Parkway and 55th St.

It's not that great in the same aspect.

Nor would I but you seemed to have disregarded the fact that I said "I do work in Boulder but thankfully my commute is easier since I'm on my way to Boulder when everyone is getting out of Boulder. The Boulder to Longmont commute is horrendous and everyone leaving Boulder take the streets they can. Arapahoe Road is getting extended (the Boulder part at least) and US 36 south bound is always packed."

Maybe next time you could read the entire statement instead of pick what you want to increase your post count. I used big red, bolded, italicized, and underlined text so that anyone, even color blind, would notice it.

Good to know which way traffic is going. Work will be close to Boulder Community Hospital so I'm guessing I could take advantage of a reverse commute.

Boulder is extremely family friendly. The only neighborhoods that are not as family friendly are ones that are really studenty, such as the Hill, or perhaps around Pearl St, where you get more younger people, homeless people, etc. You said you will be working at BCH? I am assuming you mean the new complex on Foothills. Well I would look right across Arapahoe there, in the neighborhood surrounding Manhattan Middle School. You will have some good options for $2500 a month. If Boulder isn't family friendly enough for you, then I highly recommend the surrounding towns of Louisville and Superior. Commute to BCH will only take about 20 minutes, and those towns have a ton of young, friendly, wholesome-looking families.

I work in Louisville, right near 36. You can see my office from 36. I see the cars going into/out of Boulder every morning and evening. Sometimes the traffic moves right along, sometimes its bumper to bumper 10 mph. That is both directions, AM and PM.

Okay, but again, I have equally yet to see a "horrendous commute" going into Longmont. What time of day are you doing this drive?!

Are you referring to me? I was just trying to point out that traffic goes both into and out of Boulder, and it can be heavy both ways. I don't think there is any sort of "against traffic" situation at rush hour. Maybe there is between Boulder and Longmont.

I work sort of normal business hours, and our office is located such that I can see 36 all day long.

Afternoon rush hour:
Arapahoe east-bound is packed because of the current construction on the hill between the Boulder Valley School District building (near Cherryvale Road) and 75th street.

Almost equal traffic going both ways for South Boulder road between the edge of Lafayette to Boulder (traffic is in between light and heavy).

Northeast-bound traffic on Diagonal Highway packs up near the IBM road because there are people coming over from US-287 and I-25. The intersection gets crowded because of the timing of the stop lights.

Southeast-bound traffic on US-36 seems to get bunched up after the exit to South Boulder Road becomes Table Mesa Drive.

Granted this is what I see in Boulder during afternoon rush hour on business days.
