Default safety

Thank you for all the responses. I agree that you can't live in fear and that being afraid wherever you are will only add to the experience negatively. Really...we're just a family looking to live somewhere where packing heat isn't a necessary consideration...where our 2 year old will grow up in a nice, family-friendly neighborhood. I know you can't guarantee anything. I grew up in a small coastal town in FL (Vero Beach) where people didn't lock their doors (at least in the 70's), and my family home was burglarized at gun point - it happens. I realize that. Still, as a mother, you just seek the best you can offer for your child. The question about Boulder's safety is a general one...

[font="Verdana"]When I originally move to Broomfield and hung around Boulder, I had come from Ft Lauderdale, FL which has a TON of crime - burglary, robbery, auto theft, and just generally unhappy people. I remember I was walking through the Whole Foods Market in Boulder shortly after arriving and seeing a lady leave her purse wide open in her cart and she was 3 aisles over checking out stuff and not worrying about it! What a culture shock, but pleasant. As others have said, crime is everywhere but if you are smart and aware of your surroundings, there won't be a problem. Call the local police and ask them about crime stats and the areas to say away from. They were great when I asked them before I moved there and I never felt unsafe - even on the hiking trails and such. As a matter of fact they tell you the four-legged animals are the ones to watch for - not the two legged ones. Good luck - you won't be sorry.
