Default Commute between Boulder and Denver

If the job is in downtown Denver and the house is in downtown Boulder, what sort of a commute would you have? Rush hour and non-rush hour? Any rail/subway option?

No rail yet (but it is planned). Bus service is decent, including express service during rush hours; check the rtd website for more info and schedules. The drive is about 40-45 minutes non rush hour. More unpredictable during rush hour; figure an hour, but it can be quite variable.

I commute daily from Louisville near Boulder to Cherry Creek in Denver. The drive is about 35 min. You can purchase a toll tag at the grocery store that allows you to drive in the HOV lane even if you're alone in the car. This cuts down on a lot of traffic.

With that commute -- you'd be crazy not to take the BX bus (That's called the Boulder Express). Leaves every 20 minutes or so from Boulder Station to Market Street Station in Downtown Denver. One-way trip is about 50 minutes or so, with minimal stops.

Interesting. Regarding the rail plans, what routes are being discussed and is there any indication when the city will start building it? Does Denver have any other rail transportation (that doesn't go to Boulder)?

Google RTD for some of the answers to your questions about the light rail. There is some up and running in Denver.

For info about the new rail routes, see RTD's site at: FasTracks Home. The northwest rail line running towards Boulder will be DMU commuter rail. There are also two existing light rail lines which link the southern suburbs with downtown Denver.

Default please don't drive

Take the bus. It's been running for years and is reliable and you can read the paper or text message. Please don't add to the commuter traffic and pollution.

Default Drive from Boulder to Denver?

If I live in Boulder or Denver, how would the drive between the two cities be? (on average)

i'd guess anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on time of day (traffic), accidents, weather, etc.. probably typically about 45 minutes. of course, there's always the bus (i think you might be able to catch an express bus that goes direct), so you could get work or sleep or something done en route that way.
