Louisville is good. But the commute on 36 can be hard. That hill coming down into Boulder can be scary in winter. People run it down, but I'm telling you that Longmont is not bad. South Longmont is a 15 minute ten mile drive to the Pearl exit and it's flat on the divided highway. And south longmont is closest to the best school district in Boulder County-niwot. Niwot is really really nice and quiet. Niwot would be my first or second choice outside Boulder. I sort of like the funkiness of a place like Lyons and Niwot is not funky. But it seems like housing in Niwot is as expensive as Boulder although a lot more spectacular. Superior and Broomfield are really houses on the hillside made of ticky tacky if you know what I mean. Miles and miles of band aid colored subdivisions like you'd find in California. I would choose Longmont over those places for the cool factor. Longmont has some ugly issues, but it's also got some really cool neighborhoods, but the coolest neighborhoods out there are obscured by the ugly places which stick out right when you drive in. It's like they've got the dumbest city planners out there and lazy ones too that need to make some of these absentee landlords take down the horrible buildings they've got sticking out. Downtown Longmont is really nice if you like old homes-it's as nice as Mapleton and if you can live next to golf course you wouldn't believe the views. But commute is longer b/c you've got to go through town. Longmont has an amazing Japanese history and the neighborhood and park around the Japanese temple is sort of cool-like something you'd find in east Boulder. If I were going to move to Longmont, it would be south longmont though b/c of commute. Longmont is an easier commute into Boulder. Like I said though, I would also stick to south Longmont and be in the Niwot school district. If you can afford Niwot, it's a lot better than Louisville in my opinion. Don't buy near a train track in Louisville or any of these other front range communities.
