Default Whats going on in Lafayette?????

I just went through Lafayette for the first time today and something is wrong there! Wal-Mart is closed, McDonald's shut down, quite a few plazas have no tenants, there was seemingly no traffic. There are a lot of nice homes in the area and a big hospital looks like it is constructing some more buildings. It just reminded me of an old dying eastern city. Does anyone know what is up in Denmark... or Lafayette for that matter?

The Wal-Mart has moved to a location at 287 and Baseline. It is now a Wal-Mart Supercenter. I didn't know the S. Boulder Rd McDonald's had closed; there is another one at 287 and Baseline. That seems to have become the big retail area. There is also a Walgreen's there. Plus there is a King Soopers near the old 287 on Baseline. Obviously, there is hope that something will come in to the old Wal-Mart building.

Thanks pitt, I should have known. Wal-Mart's trademark is to close down the older stores and leave their big empty buildings behind. I was joking with a friend as I went past it and said that they probibly just built a mega supercenter around the corner. I guess they did.

I actually miss the old WM. It was a lot more user-friendly than this new one, and there already is a Super WM in Broomfield.

For your further perplexment, that big (and relatively new, opened in December, 2004) hospital is also stirring up some new controversey. http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2007...patients-from/

Kaiser Permanente is preparing to direct its members away from Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center if the Lafayette hospital restricts medical procedures under Catholic ownership.
The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, a Kansas Catholic nonprofit, wants complete ownership of Good Samaritan, one of two hospitals primarily serving Kaiser's more than 400,000 local members
The proposed buyout of the hospital by the Catholic health system has spawned protests by the medical staff, a lawsuit in Boulder courts, and more.

I honestly think this is a tempest in a teapot. If patients can't get a procedure done there b/c the Catholic church won't permit it (abortion comes to mind), the pt will be referred elsewhere.

What bugs me about the hospital thing is WHY do we have to have an outfit from KS come in here to run one or more of our hospitals? What's wrong with our own CO people & money doing the job of owning & running our own hospitals?

No need to reply or discuss this, it's just a rhetorical question.
