Hello,

Love this site and deeply appreciate all the posters who have helped me evaluate the Boulder/Denver area. Moving there soon to start a job in South Boulder.

Question: I would prefer living in Louisville to South Boulder, but how bad is the traffic/commute going in that direction? I'm well aware that Boulder is not an easy place to drive to or through. I've watched the Google Maps traffic layer at commute hours and it looks like one intersection east of the highway gets pretty backed up. I forget, but I think it was Cherrydale? I But how long does it take to get through that light?

Anybody done that commute? And, yes, I already searched the forum for this info and did not see a "Louisville to Boulder commute" thread on the "sticky page".

Not interested in other debates on this stuff like "how Boulder compares to Flagstaff for mormon vegan low-income pro-development activists" or some of the other timewasters I've seen in Boulder forums. I know the area is expensive, that Boulder is full of political wackiness, that Louisville is "boring", etc.

Just the traffic info, please.

It's Louisville or South Boulder for me, and I'm fine with South Boulder, if the cost is worth avoiding a hell commute from Louisville.

thank you!

It's an easy commute.

Depending of course on exactly where you're starting and ending, it's only a few miles along South Boulder Rd and/or Baseline. Fifteen-ish minutes, more or less. 5-10 minute difference during rush hours, with snow all bets are off. Fine bus connections between the two, if you choose, and it's also a bikeable commute.

The back up at Cherryvalle is maybe not getting through the light on the first try. It's really an easy commute.

I live in Louisville. The drive to south Boulder is usually 15 minutes but can be a little longer during high traffic times. I think 30 minutes max, unless you are in heavy traffic on the Boulder Turnpike. South Boulder Rd or Baseline move pretty well but can back up at a couple of traffic lights.

I/we live in Louisville. DH works in east Boulder. It takes about 15 min to go the 7 miles. In a rush-hour snowstorm, it can be awful, but I don't know where you'd live that it isn't when that happens.

Everything you need to know about it suzco told you.

Don't worry about it. Many would kill for that commute. I would have when I lived there.

Yes I agree with those who live in louisville. The commute is really pretty quick and diffenitely worthwhile to not have to live in boulder! Nice to have the option of hw36 or south Boulder rd.
Good luck!

And as we've said, there are days like last Friday. If you were on 36 between McCaslin (Louisville) and Table Mesa (Boulder), this is what you faced:

Quote:
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A spring snowstorm and icy roads caught Colorado drivers by surprise Friday, causing a 39-vehicle pileup near Boulder and other bad wrecks that shut down highways during the morning commute.

No serious injuries were reported in the crashes on U.S. Highway 36 between Boulder and Denver, but tow-truck drivers were kept busy hauling away damaged cars. . .
