Questions about Lafayette
Just a couple questions about the Lafayette area:
1. How long a drive from downtown Boulder?
2. Any opinions or knowledge on the Indian Peaks neighborhood?
3. Schools? What about Peak to Peak Charter? Is it hard to get into?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I would say from DT Boulder it is app 10 miles and about 15 minutes. Indian Peaks is a very established, beautiful neighborhood and I would live there if I could afford it. My kids went to Peak to Peak Charter School when it was first starting and the oldest says thats where he got most of his education, I transferred him to play football at Centaurus, but my younger son had to switch to Angevine Mid School cause of needing more hours of Spec. Ed. Both my kids liked it at P to P and learned a lot there. By the way, if you are going to be driving into Boulder every morning on Arapahoe Road, count yourself lucky, its a great view and a great way to start off your day if you don't let the traffic bother you.

I know the area very well. Boulder to Lafayette is about 20-30 minutes by car. If no traffic (i.e. at 3 am in good weather) maybe you could make it in just under 20 minutes. Other times longer.

Agree with the above. Admission to P to P charter is by lottery. There are certain preferences within the lottery system that change every year. Check the district website, Boulder Valley School District

I lived in Lafayette for about 7 years. Often drove Arapahoe Road into Boulder. Breath-takingly beautiful, even at different times of the year!
Now I live in Miami. Also beautiful in a very different way. When I first moved here, I would laugh at people who pulled out the heavy sweaters and jackets when the temps dropped into the 60s! NOW I'm one of them.

Re: Lafayette
I'd certainly agree with the other posters.
The drive into Boulder for me each morning was a time to reflect on what an amazing place it is we live in. A great way to start the day!
We lived for 9 years just east of Indian Peaks and often visited friends there. It seems like a fairly typical - albeit upscale - newer subdivision with lots of families.
The only way to get kids into Peak to Peak Charter School is through the annual lottery - which is now complete for the 2009/2010 school year. There are other excellent school choices in Lafayette - our kids went to (and one still does) the excellent bilingual school Pioneer. However, that is also a school that requires you to enter through the lottery system. Other schools of note are Lafayette Elem and Angevine Middle to name just two.
Finally, I would say that Lafayette was an excellent place for our family. Less expensive than Boulder, but within easy commuting distance.
