Hey Everyone,
I actually forgot my password on here and have not been online too much as I have been working A LOT more to pay for school and will be attending school for massage therapy (my dream career) in a little over a month! I was so close to moving to St. Albans Vermont for school but decided I'd be better off staying in NYS and getting a license here as it will help me out in the long run. I am very excited about getting back to school, especially for something I love. I graduate in november and my boyfriend just graduated. After graduation, we are going to make the move (finally). Just because I haven't been online does not mean that I have "given up". I've never given up on anything so why would I start now?
COMEBACK_KID (a horrible band, by the way) why does that sound to me like an insult? He is a videographer. They were sailing around the world, dude, it would have been an experience of a lifetime. Whoever wouldn't look into that more is crazy. Anyways, instead, he ended up taking a job offered to him, filming for an NBC affiliate and he loves it. He has also succeeded in obtaining his dream job as a Videographer. He was offered to tour with The Red Chord and shot/put together a video per request by John Legend - SONY/BMG's biggest artist. So, instead of being a douche - you could be excited for someone else who is taking up new and exciting things.
Everyone else: I am still super interested in doing something like this. We have been pretty open to living in Amsterdam for some time before we settle down in Colorado. Colorado (Boulder, specifically) is where we want to become permanent so it's sort of our "last stop". First, we are most-likely going to Boston (ugh..) for his job and after that we will be heading mid-west/west. Instead of starting a commune, we are talking about starting a Hostel instead. That way, we could meet new people nearly everyday, help people out by giving them a place to stay and have our neccessities paid for and it'd be much more logical. i'll let you all know when it opens!
Wherewilliland - I do live in New York. I live in Albany. It's horrible here. The only options are dinner and a movie..at the mall. Hahaha. How can you be bored in the City? I suppose growing up there you've seen the same thing over and over and aren't phased by it. I could never live there, though. It's far too hectic. We're heading to the City on New Years Eve. I haven't been all year and I am really missing it.

I slept there one night last October. Sparse accomodations. Just the basics, to say the least.
Boy what a god awful racket those CU freshman were making all night long outside my window with their underage drinking and hootin' and hollerin' !
Average hotel/motel room in Boulder: $70-120/night. Hostel: $40.00 Not bad for the money.

I said we'd like to start a hostel out WEST not specifically in Boulder. Boulder is our last stop so-to-speak, where we will be settling down for multiple years, if not forever. But thanks for the link, I'll have to bookmark it for when we swing out that way. Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

Forget the hostel. Do the commune.

Not with the typical people today, no way. I'd rather take my chances with the Donner party. We've become a "********* buddy, I'm OK" society, and that's the way it is. You'll end up getting sued in any case.

maybe attend a Rainbow Family annual gathering, and see how those freaks interact with each other - should be a fair indication of how daily life would be in a commune...

ok this is so very sad to read. how dare you people crush this girl's dreams. i know you aree merely showing your concern but god damn let her have her dream of a loving group of people.
Maggie, i know it is hard to do things like this and live not in the norm. but if you truly want to do something like this don't give up. all you have to do is find people of like feeling and ideals. make sure they know it's going to be hard work. Anything that is worth doing take work.
there are ways to make income on the side, along with being self sufficient. all you need is the knowledge and the support of people who care about you. hell if i could find a commune that didn't do all those stupid group dancing and singing i would be there in a NY minute. basically what I'm saying is don't give up on your dreams.
My boyfriend and i were doing a search on how to create a commune. but when i read your one message about how you felt about having your own commune it filled me with joy that there are still good people out there. and i believe this is truly something worth fighting for. go for it. as long as you work hard stay focused and start small it can work. all you need to do is keep gaining knowledge about the places you might want to make this commune.
medicinal plant guides, eatable plants, boy scout guides, how to build... guides.
that one gentleman did have one good point about children and that is true but nothing says you can't find a way to send a kid to school. i do believe that all children should be able to go to a school it's good for their social skills. unless you know any really good teachers and a **** load of other people with kids... kids come first always
as far as medicine, you don't always need to go the doctor for every little ailment that befalls on you there are ways to help yourself get better, and naturally at that.
So Maggie please don't give up your dreams just because some people can't understand or even imagine a world without TV and internet, and phones. just like in any other thing in the world let it be a job that you really want or just money or power or hell even if you want to go to the moon or something. if you want it bad enough you will find a way to do it. just go slow and work hard at it and it will happen.
i would hate to see all that love go to waste because some greedy people can't understand what freedom really is.
Peace and hope all your dreams come true.
Sorry if i may have ruffled any feathers but let her have her damn dream and stop being so close minded people.
Heather
