IIRC Boulder, Ithaca, and Berkeley are the most liberal of the batch. Y/n?

Ithaca, NY and State College, PA are kind of "in the middle of nowhere". There is no big city 30 miles away to offer the amenities that only a big city can: professional sports, professional arts groups, etc. Boulder, unlike Ithaca and State College, has a large sector of the economy that does not depend directly on the University.

Any smallish mid-sized city where there is a "University of <State Name>". Ann Arbor, Michigan (where I live); Eugene, Oregon; Madison, Wisconsin; etc. Or an Ivy League school.

I lived in west hartford, Connecticut...trust me, its gorgeous out there and PLENTY to do. I'd also recommend looking into the East End of Long Island, NY (aka: Suffolk County). You have miles and miles of bike paths along the ocean boardwalks, the area is just beginning to build up w/new homes and younger people/couples (b/c it is cheaper in that area than in other parts of LI, like Nassau County) there are huge parks ALL OVER Long Island; also, you are not far from a quick trip into the city where Central Park is...
But West Hartford (basically anywhere in CT to be honest) is absolutely beautiful, and w/University of Hartford, Central CT College, and of course the biggee...UCONN, all in the vicinity of each other, you will definitely find a university type atmosphere up there! Definitely check it out!! Good luck!

Burlington, VT.......its beautiful and the architect that created Pearl Street Mall also created Church Street in Burlington......I live in Boulder, but if I had to go to the east coast it would definitely be Burlington! Good Luck and remember, there are pros and cons everywhere....it just depends on what your looking for!
