Default Small mountain town with young people?

I'm 24, finished college a year ago, and I'm self-employed. I have the opportunity to work from anywhere so I might as well take advantage of it and do some travelling, and get out of the 110 degree heat I'm living in here in Tempe, AZ.

I'd like to visit a small mountain town for a few months and do a lot of hiking and other outdoor stuff. My only requirements are there must be a lot of young people, and I need broadband internet that doesn't disconnect all the time (required for work).

Is there somewhere in or near the Boulder area that meets these requirements or should I be looking elsewhere? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Tim

Nederland is a small town 18 miles west and 3,000 feet above Boulder.
I see lots of young people around but I don't know if they live here or are just visiting. We have easy access to fantastic hiking and "other outdoor stuff". There are some pretty good restaurants and a really good brewpub. It would be a great place to beat the heat for a few months - at least until the end of October. The town of Ned has broadband internet, I think they may be served by Qwest DSL. There are also several very reliable wireless internet providers for those living outside the town. My husband telecommutes 2-3 days a week and rarely has a problem with ours (Nednet).

It might be a little to far from you, but you could try Asheville NC.

Asheville always pops up on these "Best Places to Retire" lists, so maybe not.

Asheville has a great population of young a people with a couple of colleges in the area thriving artistic community( lots of hippies and the like) and music scene. There are a lot of elderly in the surrounding small towns tho. still i wouldn't count it out.

Nederland for sure. My boyfriend and good friend live in Ned, and I'm there every weekend (I live in Boulder). I love it. Plenty of young people, very "small town" atmosphere, and you can walk to hiking trails from your house (or drive less than half an hour to hit a trial that goes over the continental divide, just to name one of many insanely great spots).

FYI, Nederland does not have cell phone service. There are a couple mountains you can get service on top of (easy drive), but in the actual town it's landline or nothing. Internet works fine as far as I know - I haven't used it myself.

If you want some options, the other towns I've heard are good for the younger crowd are MUCH farther back in the mountains - Teluride and Durango. I'm planning a move to Durango myself right now

Let me know if you have more questions; I'm happy to answer them.
