I think Longmont is in the St. Vrain school district & Lakewood is in Jefferson County (Jeff Co as it's called here). I am a teacher & know many people who have worked in both districts. Jeff Co is HUGE but is a solid district that is always trying to stay on top of new things in education. St. Vrain is recovering from a major $$ blunder a few years ago, but the teachers that I know that work there are positive & love their jobs. (Stay away from the charter school in Longmont). I would not hesitate to work or send kids to either. (Except that my current district pays more!)
Longmont is a much cuter area with less of the suburban sprawl feel to it. I would much rather live in Longmont.

Default Possible relocation to Longmont area

Hi guys,

I am trying to get a transfer up to Longmont for work - hopefully in the next 6 months to 1 year.

We just don't know where to start looking, as far as housing.

My wife and I are in our 20's, and may be expecting soon, so we want a good area to raise a family.

Unfortunately, our credit isn't the greatest, so purchasing in the next few years probably won't happen. So, we're looking for a few good areas to rent in (apartment, condo, townhome, whatever - preferably townhome). We're wanting a 2bdr/2bath, around 1000sq ft, about $800 for an apt, $1000 for a condo/townhouse.

We'd really like somewhere safe, where my wife doesn't have to be afraid to walk to her car, I don't have to worry about my car being broken into, etc. (we're currently paying $900 a month for a 1bdr, in a decent area and still have those issues)

I wouldn't mind a bit of a commute, but definitely not in heavy traffic, and preferably highway driving if it's more than 20-25min.

Seems like most advice around here is for purchasing a home, so I'm hoping you all could give some suggestions for nice rental areas. I'd appreciate any help.

We've just got to get out of Phoenix. I've been here all my life and am need of a change...I just can't deal with 115 degree summers, LOTS of traffic, high crime, high cost of living, etc. My wife has only lived here a few years, but is only staying here because of me

Thanks all.

kat1804 is on a distinguished road
Hi there,

My name is kat, and although i don't live in longmont i am travelling over in october for three weeks fron England, to spend time in the colorado theraputic riding centre. I have posted my own thread and have recieived some info, so i would be happy to share.

From what i can gather lonmont is a nice area where peole are very friendly and welcoming. I'm sorry that i can not give you any advice on area to live, but here is what i have learnt.

Longmont is about 25 mins' drive from Boulder which is a great place to go look around and people-watch and has lots going on. It's also about 45 mins from Denver and the airport and 35 mins from Estes Park which is in the mountains and right on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. The area around Longmont is rural looking, there is quite a bit of horseback riding and a small regional airport. You get a great view of the Front Range, ie; the Rocky Mountains, from Longmont and driving into the mountains takes about 15 minutes.

I myself am looking to rent some thing is there area for the tree weeks, i've no idea where to start! If i find any thing else out i will be more than happy to pass it on to you.

best of luck for your relocation

Your budget should give you lots of flexibility in the Longmont area for rental housing. There's everything from established neighborhoods to new condo's in the immediate area.

If you could post where in the Longmont area your work is located, then it would be easier to suggest specific areas to look for housing. While traffic isn't too bad for any local commute into Longmont, it may be possible to have your requirements met and be within minutes of your work.

BTW, the Longmont airport is only General Aviation. You'll go to DIA for flights out.

Thanks. The office is located just south of the Twin Peaks Mall.

The numbers I gave are the upper end of our budget, of course we would always prefer cheaper.

Really what we're looking for is a relaxed, slower atmosphere, without all the hustle and bustle of being in the middle of a big city. A fairly safe area, schools aren't a big deal, since we're a ways off from that right now.

Have a look at the usual renting websites such as Forrent.com or Allapartments.com - I found mine thro there. There are definitely nice and safe places to rent, at varying prices. Being near the Twin Peaks Mall, have a look at places around Nelson St. I live right at the north end of Hover and it's all quite safe and quiet.

Weather in October is pretty good. The trees are turning colour and will look fabulous, it's not freezing cold but getting a bit windy and possibly rainy. Average temps in October are around 19º during the day and up to 7º at night (Celsius of course!).

chilaili hit it right on the nose ... the Nelson Road area, neighborhoods off Hover road, West side of Longmont are great places to live.

Your commute to the Mall will be a matter of minutes ....

With super access to the roads connecting to Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins for all your major shopping, entertainment, etc.

Of course, recreation is just about right on your doorstep ... horses, bicycling, hiking, camping just to the west. Lots of open spaces on public lands.

Default Thanks for those comments

Thanks guys! How about places to live, This job offer to me is in Longmont United Hospital. Do you guys know of neighborhoods around the hospital that you can recommend. We are also looking for a neighborhood which is about 2-8 miles away from the hospital, due to the fact that this job requires emergency or on-call duties 24/7. Thanks guys and God Bless!

I appreciate the advice from you all. I have looked at a couple apartments online in the areas you suggested, and they look pretty nice.

I was curious, how does Loveland compare to Longmont, price- and community-wise? Would it be worth looking into? How would the commute be? Mapquest says it would only be around a half hour, but I know Mapquest isn't too reliable on travel times sometimes...

thanks all
