I've got a friend in Longmont and they really like it. It's nto the blue collar town it was 10 years ago. I especially liked the brewery downtown and the cajun eatery behind it. Lucy's? Lucille's?

75,000 inhabitants and growing - and yes, there is a small problem but the police have really been cracking down. Longmont police dept just got voted onto the top 10 police departments in the country by the DOJ. And Longmont isn't the only town along the Front Range with that problem.

I would say this is about the farthest thing from a small town around...think giant strip mall...not "small town" -- just one person's opinion.

We've been here 8 years and to me, Longmont does have a small town feel. Not sure what you mean by giant strip mall.
We love Longmont. We live on the very southwest edge of town so we are about 10 minutes from Boulder. Our son attends Sunset Middle School and will go to Niwot High next year.
Haven't heard much about the gang stuff in a long time. Biggest uproar recently was graffiti. Longmont is very family oriented. There always seems to be something going on.

I work in Longmont, and it's not a bad place. Live just outside of it in Firestone, personally I prefer to live in Weld county than Boulder county. Lower taxes, however when I "go to town" it means I'm coming into Longmont.
Several good places to eat here, there is a new place called Fusions (something like that) that is pretty good, it's an unusual place to see in Longmont, but none the less it's worth checking out.

I live in Boulder, but have lots of friends who chose Longmont. None of them have ever expressed any dissatisfaction beyond a few feeling that Longmont has less of a music scene than Boulder. Longmont does have a higher Hispanic population but, as far as I can see from over here in Boulder, all that means is that there's some mighty fine Mexican restaurants there.
And yes, there's a New Orleans style reataurant there on Main St. (can't think of the name at the moment) but Oh Boy! It is sooooooooo fine.

I think Longmont is a fine place to live. It is true that, unlike some other parts of Boulder County, Longmont actually has some bona-fide lower-income people. And some minorities. And some agricultural heritage. I don't see this as a negative -- it makes Longmont seem much more like a real town.
In Longmont you used to see a lot of bumper stickers proclaiming "Don't Boulderize Longmont!" Not so much anymore, because I guess the town has already been Boulderized. I kind of understand the sentiment, but in this case I think Longmont has survived a bit of Boulderization pretty well.

I agree that Longmont is a good place ot live. It has a beautiful old main street and wonderful older neighborhoods to the west and east.
When, I first saw Longmont, almost 30 yrs. ago, Longmont Turkey brought Turkeys in the Center of Town and shelter them under sprinklers to keep them calm as they were brought into the plant for processing. It was a site and smell experience. Now, the city is little more sophisticated.
It has an advantage that it is in progressive Boulder County, and at the same time away from the hussle of City of Boulder but close enough to be able to enjoy the amenities. The location is perfect to get to areas of Berthoud, Loveland and Fort Collins to the north and Denver metro to the south.
It is in the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and has some of the best services for buses in the area with express buses to Boulder and Denver. It will also the the northernmost terminus of the Commuter Rail Lines, which will be completed in 2016.
