Ok thanks. That helps espacially when you said that most Americans were never victims of it. And how are the schools? Are they good. Does it depend on the area? I mean you would say so because it is like this in Holland. But maybe it depends on something else in the U.S.? And are there gang dominated schools? That`s also a thing what I`m worried about. Because children have to go to it every day. Or are gang members mostly dropouts? What I mean are American schools save? It would be strange if there were no save schools in America so were does the safetiness depends on?

The schools in Longmont are good. Kids graduate from the high schools there and go to highly-rated colleges. I don't know about the gang influence in those schools. My guess would be if there is any gang stuff, most of the members are drop-outs, but that is only a guess. The schools are safe. Of course, anything can happen anywhere, but they have no history of lots of incidents.

Wink Longmont native

I am a Longmont native and always said i was getting out of this town asap! But now Im 36 and have a family and Im glad we stayed. Denver and Boulder are very close for culture and entertainment. The mountains are right there. And I wouldnt know which way is west without them. Longmont is really growing though and the prices of houses arnt cheep in Boulder County. If your looking for cheaper you have to go to Weld or Larimer counties
Good Luck!! My daughter goes to Niwot HS. Great school!

If you want cheaper then boulder county is not for you. Louisville, boulder is not the place to go. Anything in Boulder County is pricey. Longmont is in Boulder County but its a great family town but stay on the south end. The north side is getting worn down. We had 1 gang activity last year on the north end, but that is all ive heard about.

Default Need help with finding decent areas in Longmont

I am a single mom relocating to Colorado within the next 8 months. I have 4 kids that go to high school, middle school, and elementary school. I am possibly interested in Longmont and I have checked some rental home ads for my price range. I'm looking in the range of $850 to $1000 max. I realize I will have to look into older homes and I'm ok with that - just want to make sure it's a decent neighborhood. I've been to Longmont before, but I don't know what areas are good. Some rentals I found were on Hilltop, Marshall Pl, Eagle, Winona, and Baretta. Does anyone know which areas these are in and what they're like? Any input would be appreciated.

I am also thinking about Longmont - I am a single woman in my early 50's - are there fairly decent opportunities to meet other folks or is Longmont strictly family-oriented? I was looking at the area around 66th & Pace - looks nice - lots of new construction, etc. Anybody have opinions on that area?

Wherever you consider living, it's advisable to contact the local police department and ask for a copy of (i) crime reports by neighborhoods, and (ii) locations where child molesters live. In Longmont, more crime occurs near Main Street and east of Main Street. In the south part of town near the Longmont Museum and in the southwest part of town, there are few crimes. There is a newish rec center adjacent to the museum and an affordable housing project that is worth considering. Check with Thistle or the Boulder County Housing Authority about subsidized housing in towns around here. You can rent or buy a nice place but you may have to be on a waiting list for affordable housing. Always make sure you meet the parents and see the homes of your children's friends. Ask the schools about gang problems. Read the local paper, the Times-Call, online to get a sense of what goes on in this conservative, agriculture-based town, for better and for worse. Two reasons to live in Longmont are that you want to be near family members or you can't afford to live in Boulder or Denver. Look into whether you qualify for any of the affordable housing programs in the area. Fort Collins and Boulder, because of their universities and the people and businesses they attract, feature a higher level of education and tolerance, as well as better public transportation, more amenities and programs accessible to all income levels.

There are some nice modular homes in and around the Firestone, Co area which is outside of Longmont (in Weld county). There really isn't any "bad" area's out here. Smaller community that is growing fast (unfortunately).

Here's one that I was able to find on-line. There is another one I know about but couldn't find anything online, but if you're interested I could get you the phone number.

Eagle Crest in Firestone, CO

Default Looking at Longmont

I went online today and did a questionare about my best place to live in America. Longmont came up as my first best place. My mother in law took it too and longmont was 2nd for her and my wife had longmont on her top 20, 14th if I remember correctly. I have spent a bit of time today looking at all the info I could find about the town and I like it! What is it really like living there? I am a cable tv technician and my wife is a high school teacher. The housing market looks good and so what are some of your thoughts? Let me know. Robert in Temecula, Ca.
