Boulder Nightlife
My husband and I are visiting for the weekend. Any recommendations on bars with great music and atmosphere. We are in our mid to late 20's.

Just go to Pearl Street and look around. There are plenty of great bars with good music all over Pearl.

Pretty much matches what I have to say. Rios had great margaritas.

I like the idea of heading out to Pearl and just walking around and hitting some bars. Some of my suggestions-
If you get in on friday, start your evening at the Med. If you can get in for their happy hour, you'll find some great tapas and drinks.
Shoot some pool at the Foundry if you have some time to kill.
Rio's does a good margarita, as mentioned before.
The Kitchen Upstairs is rather small, but it is worth waiting for a tiny table that looks over the street. Their drinks are good!
Conor O'Neills comes alive after 9 PM or so. You could catch a live band there.
Lazy Dog is a good hangout too.

Boulder Nightlife - Is It Loud And Obnoxious?
Hey,
Our nightlife in Flagstaff is loud and obnoxious and takes place in old, run down buildings. People are rude, pushy, and unfriendly. It doesn't feel safe. The buildings are covered with graffiti and the streets covered with glass. People are smoking marijuana (illegally in this state) all over the place.
How is your downtown district? Are people more "mature" than what I've described? Is it sophisticated or is it like something from the 19th century? Do you have loft apartments above downtown shops, Richard Florida style?
I make these generalizations as someone from Seattle so I've got west coast standards. NO offense meant to the ghetto of Flagstaff that many here love, it's just not my cup of tea here. I want to move to an area that is sophisticated, where people aren't rude, and there isn't glass all over the streets. I don't have a problem with pot smoking, but it doesn't belong in public, and is a symptom of a larger problem (i.e. the Northern Arizona recession with 10%+ unemployment).
Thanks...

Tom, I don't know Flagstaff very well, but it sounds like Boulder nightlife is similar except the buildings and the patrons are both more upscale and well-maintained, shall we say.
Boulder is a college town. As much a college town as any. It is full of inebriated youngsters doing obnoxious stuff.

Kryptos's suggestion for a night out is a good one. You can also catch great live music at a variety of venues. There's often salsa dancing at the St. Julien, if that's your thing.
The west end of Pearl and Walnut is probably where you want to focus.

Nightlife
Boulder definitely has its share of college students getting rowdy on Pearl St., but their are bars that are more accustomed to young professionals. The Upstairs is a nice place to start the evening or like one other said, the walnut. Live music is everywhere, just depends on the nights you'll be going out. If you want a traditional Boulder hippie scene check out the Mt. Sun on Sunday night, its pretty fun and the music is great. The St. Julien is nice for evening cocktails, but it dies down pretty early. My suggestion for a late night party til 2 am would be conner oneil's. Its got a good mix of people and its usually a great time.
Enjoy your time in Boulder
