Default where is a safe, family neighborhood with a good school district?

I am thinking of relocating to Boulder, or a small town outside of Boulder (if anyone has any suggestions). I am a single mother and want a safe area, with as little "trouble" a possible. A good, safe, healthy, reasonably priced place to raise my child. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Buy or rent and price range? Boulder has all those things but is not reasonably priced by any stretch, but you might be able to find something in the areas around Boulder such as Superior, Lafayette, Broomfield, Westminster, and Louisville.

Niwot is another good place, but pretty pricey.

Thanks those are all great! I will be renting until I get to know the area a little more. I don't want to spend a lot on an apartment, but I will pay whatever to ensure that I live in a good area. Are those towns listed outside of Boulder nice? how far are then from boulder?

They all are extremely close to Boulder. Gunbarrel is just basically just a couple miles from Boulder. Niwot is maybe 5 miles away from Boulder. And Longmont is maybe 7 miles from Boulder. By the way both Gunbarrel and Niwot are in between Boulder and Longmont.

Lafayette, Louisville and Superior are all 4-6 (approx) miles from Boulder. Broomfield is probably 10 miles, Westminster a little farther (they sort of run in to each other). Gunbarrel is not a town; it's mostly a housing development with a few stores such as a grocery store, some fast food and other restaurants. There is at least one apartment complex there.

Hi Katiana.

With Gunbarrel there are several condominiums/apartments there. And quite a few other types of businesses as well besides the restaurants.

There is also a neighboorhood called Heatherwood which is considered to be in Gunbarrel. There is an elementary school there called Heatherwood Elementary. Also in Gunbarrel there is a private school called Boulder Country Day. In Niwot there are 2 schools. An elementary and a high school. Hope that helps csimps.
