Hi all,

I may find myself in Boulder for a year, and do not want to spend it in an apartment. What are my single-family housing rental options around the downtown area? I'd be coming in with my wife and three kids (+dog!). I assume there should be a bit of selection, being a college town. Looking for a three bedroom.

Tx!
Adam

How close to downtown do you wish to be? Walking distance? That will cost plenty and be in short supply. Boulder is not that large. You can live in S. Boulder and be downtown in a few minutes.

Hi Katiana, walking distance to downtown is preferable. I'll decide if it's possible once I hear the prices I figured there would be a fair amount of housing near the college, but that was just an assumption.

If not walking distance, than at least an easy bike ride distance

How familiar are you with Boulder. "Downtown" is not the same as the downtowns of a lot of cities. It's mainly the Pearl St. Mall (outdoor, pedestrian) which has a lot of boutiques, unique stores and bars/restaurants, but not a lot of general shopping. For that, you have to go to the 29th St. Mall (also outdoor, but one of those "lifestyle center" type places), or out of town.

A 3BR rental near the Pearl St. Mall would be pricey. I'd look in other parts of town, which, as I said, are not that far away. South Boulder has a lot of rental housing, and it would be a fairly short bike ride from there to Pearl St.

You're going to spend between $2000 - $4000 / month for an average house approx 1800 sq. ft. Anything close to Pearl Street (downtown) will probably start closer to $4000/mo.
