Default Cabin houses rent question and where to look?

My wife and I are moving to the Denver/Boulder area in a couple months. I'm traveling there for a week to scope out jobs and opportunity along with how I feel about the area. My question is what is the best way to look for house rentals? We are only interested in a small one bedroom house in the mountains, country, or somewhere spread out but within 25 miles of the city. I've checked the Craigslist but it's very limited. We also have a budget of about $900 a month max for rent. Any ideas? I also heard Boulder is very media oriented which is what my profession is. Thanks. By the way the house doesn't have to be a cabin but a house away from neighborhoods and citylife.

Just doing a quick search online, I think $900 is going to limit your options quite a bit, but I'll admit I'm not 100% familiar with all the rental companies in the area. Which towns around Boulder did you search?

Just different areas around Denver. I'm more interested in the job placement which will determine which part around Denver and how much our budget will be. We are just playing it safe right now and getting to know areas and what they have to offer. I'm traveling down there for the whole week next week so that will give me a better idea about the areas around Denver. We definately only want a home out of city that I know.

I'm not so sure Boulder is really media oriented at all - there's absolutely no CG work to speak of, although I gather you work in music (composer?), so perhaps it's different. But for computer media (3D, games and such, it seems a wasteland). Anyone know differently?

If it's Talk Radio they are referring to (highly unlikely, we're all crazy), Boulder-Denver is a HUGE talk radio market, with some of the most talented local hosts and experienced program directors in the country (love or hate their politics! LOL!): hosts Rick Barber, Big Steve (Steve Siedenfeld), Jay Marvin, Mike Rosen, Lou Pate, Erin Hart, Gunny Bob Newman, Jon Caldera, and PD's Kris Olinger and Jerry Bell at CC's 850 KOA / 760 KKZN. And for honorable mention in recent months, that morning guy w/ the spectacles on AM 630. Several of the hosts are so controversial that they get in trouble with "Colorado Media Matters." That just drives their ratings even higher, and that's been a strategy of Kris Olinger throughout her careers at KOA and KIRO. And, numerous smaller stations in the market including everything from far-right protectionists to community radio and NPR.

I specialize in composing music and working with television and film including editing, visual effects, and quite a few others. We are not moving to an over saturated town like Hollywood or anything else like that. We paid our dues in Nashville with that problem. I also specialize in audio engineering and from
Our research Colorado seems to have a good combo of stuff. Most other states in the west either have nothing or stuff like Hollywood where there are 15 media jobs and a million people who want them. From what I am hearing from this forum is Denver has a lot of media opportunity and the economy is strong there. Can't get much worse then Tenn. One of the unemployment and alergy capitals of the US. LOL. My wife suffered so much down there.

Hey thanks qfrost. It's tough these days to really know where to go in this economy. Guess we all have to take our best bet and go for it. At least the unemployment rate is much lower then most states. That's a good sign.

If you can find work, I don't think there's a better place to be than Colorado.
