Gunbarrel area? Powderwhorn condos?
Hello - I'm moving to the area for a job in Boulder & I'm looking for a reasonably priced neighborhood (thinking 2 bed condos for around $200,000).
Could anyone shed some light on what the Gunbarrel area is like? In particular I'm thinking of looking at Powderhorn complex . . . any info on that?
Thanks!!

I think most people would be happier living in Boulder proper than Gunbarrel -- the industrial areas are technically part of Boulder but the residential areas are not, and the feel of the area reflects that -- disconnected. There's virtually no retail in Gunbarrel -- one strip mall with a King Soopers, so count on driving to Boulder or Longmont for everything. On the other hand, some people would consider being disconnected from Boulder a good thing.
It is cheaper, however, and much closer than Longmont, so there's something to be said for that.

There may not be any major retail in Gunbarrel but it is on a busline right into the centre of Boulder that takes about 20-25 minutes and goes down the main thoroughfares of 28th Street and Canyon Ave, which will take you past the new 29th Street Mall as well as Safeway and once you get off at the bus station you're 5mins walk from Pearl Street, the library, etc. Gunbarrel is a quiet area, surrounded by some greenery but close to Hwy 119 which will take you into Boulder or Longmont. I think the condos are very close to a creek and park too.

I for one think Gunbarrel is a great undiscovered area. Away from the hustle and bustle yet you can be in town in 10 or15 minutes. It is less expensive and many places have views. I have a condo there right near Powderhorn.

I know several people who are very happy living in Gunbarrel, and they've said it has a nice sense of community.

I'm sort of lukewarm to the area. It is mostly an array of condos and track homes, but there are some nice green belts, parks, and a creek depending on which part you're in. Overall, a bit bland/vanilla. The few restaurants there are really crap. But it is much more affordable and easy to get around.
Personally, in that price range, I would prefer to buy a house in Louisville or even Niwot. Louisville is just as close to Boulder (though not Longmont) and has a thriving little historical downtown area with good restaurants, bars, shops, yoga, etc. So you have the option of a short jaunt to Boulder proper, or to walk down the street to a local cafe. The main street area has a LOT more character than anything you'll see in Gunbarrel.

Niwot is very cool, great prices for Boulder County..Kings Ridge in North East Boulder is priced fairly well for condos within Boulder city limits 200'-300's.
