Not really a fair statement - just because someone lives in Boulder county does not make them a Boulderite - I know chilaili does not live in Boulder.
For first time homeowners it can be confusing. I personally would never take stock in what the county assessed my home at - as already mentioned, the true value is what someone is willing to pay. If you are paying less taxes, then I wouldn't worry chilaili! If you go to sell, you'll get an appraisal that will really tell the tale.
Our notice said we lost $3,100 in value, but our taxes went up because of the mill levy. The county does not know what improvements we've made on the inside - they are even using a picture of our house that was taken before we painted and did a ton of landscaping - it's about 5 years old. But frankly, I'm fine with that due to the taxes. The last time we refinanced and it was appraised independently, the appraisal was much higher that the tax valuation.
So I wouldn't worry about it. Anyone appealing because they think their house is worth more is crazy in my opinion.

Okay, so we bought a flipped house in Northwest Denver in December of 2008. It had been bought and flipped in the 6 months before that. It was appraised at $225,000 and our home assessment bill was for something like $150,000 or something. I am assuming that is because they did it in June 2008, before it was flipped???
Sorry I can't read all the thread right now.....I am a teacher and in between classes.

sunsprit,
Thank you for the reply at least. Whether it answers my question is another matter. I will have to read your two posts, slower and with more patience. I know, I now having problems understanding and reading--another residuals of my medical problems--it is perhaps, I just cannot concentrate on this "exciting" subject. It does not matter. I am content with my assessment--I rather pay less taxes.
Thanks for the info,

You mean this:
"It may be worth more in your eyes, and you may want bragging rights, but you cannot take that to the bank."
and this:
" My property dropped $23,000 and I just accept the fact and have less tax, because in Adams County, we do not have the need to boast, like a Boulderite, we just suffer our poverty and

It was a glancing, expression of a humorously, perceived Boulder behavior of the flaunting rich vs. the often voiced conception of Adams County residents, as being poor. Both are not totally true, but I like a little amusement and irreverence with my words. That is how I laugh at the world and

Thank you to everyone here who made HELPFUL comments. As I stated right at the beginning, I'm NOT familiar with how the calculate these numbers, I am a first-time homebuyer and I think I'm entitled to be concerned about the possible devaluation of my home no matter how much the amount was. I also appreciate those people who realised that I don't live in Boulder and I absolutely was NOT in any way trying to "brag" about the value of my home - I asked an honest question because I was ignorant and concerned and I am truly grateful to all those who offered instructive information in a positive way.
