Question Niwot High School?

Hi, I'm new to the forums. My family is considering moving to the Niwot-Boulder area and that means if we move sometime this year (probably summer), I'll be bound for Niwot High.
As you can imagine I was really tying to look into the classes they offered but the links were broken.
Can anyone tell me what this school is like - more importantly, what classes they have?
I've also heard the scores are great there. Sound like a really nice place. Small, friendly, challenging. Right?
And the block scheduling a definitely a plus. 8 CLASSES? I can fit everything in!

And, would I be exempt from scholarships if I came from out of state?

Thanks!

Niwot High School is as good as you can get.

I have no clue what you're asking about if you "would be exempt from scholarships if you came from out of state."

Well, it takes a year to be a permanent resident of Colorado, right? State scholarships require you to be a resident of the state applicable. I'll be in 9th the following year, are there any scholarships this early that I'll be missing out on since I won't be a resident right away?

I'm not aware of any scholarships for 9th grade. Perhaps other posters will be more helpful.

If you're talking about college scholarships, I believe the answer to your question is "no". By the time you go to college, you will probably have fulfilled all the CO residency requirements.

I'm not aware either regarding scholarships.

My son goes to Niwot. He's a sophomore this year. What specifically do you want to know about the classes? Niwot has the IB program. My son didn't opt for that but is doing Honors classes.

I do see the links are broken, which seems to be a District issue....which is too bad because you can't see the handbook which outlines the requirements you have to have to graduate. I can look at my son's if that is something you really want to know.

Niwot has a lot of great programs and a lot of great Electives to chose from. I'm not sure I'd call it a small high school, but I guess that depends on your perspective and the size of school you are coming from.

Be more specific regarding class questions, etc. and I'll try to answer them or ask him about them. Last year was a breeze for him starting high school. There were no issues and Niwot is really great. Then again, he's been with that group of kids since 6th grade (and some since kindergarten). Flowing into Niwot are the same kids that were in middle school together - no other schools are mixed in. Only kids doing IB from other schools come into Niwot at that point.

Okay.
That sounds great by the way.

Classes... mostly I just want to know what APs they offer. The electives don't matter except do they offer German?
APs... do they have AP Physics (C), Calculus BC, World History, European History, Biology, Chemistry etc.?
The APs are very important to me, these are basically the classes I'm looking for.

The kids sound nice, friendly and the school's the perfect size. Needless to say I'm excited.

AP is the route my son is taking - you might also want to consider the IB program. In your Freshman and Sophomore years the classes are called Honors - after that it's AP.

First off, here are you requirements for graduation:
English - 4 credits
Math - 3 credits
Social Studies - 3 credits
Science - 3 credits
PE - 2 credits
Health - .5 credits
Fine Arts - .5 credits
Practical Arts - .5 credits
Electives - 8 credits

Total, 24.5 to graduate

In Ninth grade your Honors choices are:
Hon. English 9
Hon. Biology
Hon. World Geography

10th
Hon. English 10
Hon. Biology (that's this year because of a course change for Freshmen, so I don't know what it will be next year)
Hon. U.S. History

Then you have AP classes the next two years. Your math is determined by placement - you have to test out I think. My son did in 8th grade. Then it's determined by recommendation of teacher and goals. My son plans on going into Aerospace Engineering so math/science are big for him.

They do have AP Physics and AP Calculus BC, etc.

Your language choices are Spanish (very good thing to know here), French, and German.

You will also want to look into the requirements of the college you are interested in - such as language requirements, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, math and science are also definitely big for me. I kind of assumed the school would have Spanish already so that's good. I'm in Spanish 2 this year.
Thanks again for all the info!
