Great place to raise a family; wonderful sense of community; good schools. Getting a little expensive housing-wise, but otherwise COL the same as the rest of Colorado. Lots of recreational facilities for kids and adults, a community theater group, BIG 4th of July celebration, Fall Festival at Labor Day with close to a week of activities and the second-biggest Labor Day parade in Colorado, pet parade for kids 12 and under. Close to shopping in Boulder and Broomfield. A little far from Denver. Can't complain.

Default What didn't you care for in Castle Rock/southern metro?

Hi Galaril,

I'm just curious if you could share what it was about Castle Rock and the southern metro that you did not care for. I'm relocating from New York with a school-age child and will be doing a similar tour of the area (Louisville down to CR, Littleton, Highlands Ranch.) thanks!

Like any area including where we live now there is good and bad. What we didn't care for so much was the clear cut look to the canyon liek area. It definitely felt like we were heading to a desert area like New mexico or something. I can imagine it being very windy and dusty out their. The home swere nice like everwhere else in Colorado. The house are spaced out more but just too high plains for our liking. The other things we felt was that the of we were to buy in CR we would be buying in the far southern area in crystal valley ranch and thus our kids would be attending the school where the predominant language is not English. There are some homes left in some of the other areas but many of them seem to be what is left adn not that great of a variety. Now if we went resale home there is afair selection. Also, we are snowboarders so we need to be withing a hour of some place to do it.
I have friends who live Parker and say they nice but all there alot of rules for living there. YMMV

I am hoping that much of this is a joke. Moderator cut: personal - off topic

Crystal Valley Ranch area schools are populated by foreign speakers? Parker has Rules to Live by? High Plains? and Erie is not?

As I said, you have got to be kidding. And if you really believe any of this...where did you get any of this information?

Moderator cut: off topic I should learn to keep my mouth shut. These are just my impressions from visiting the area and everything else, I have gleaned from this site. So, no I wasn't joking.

Moderator cut: personal - off topicI heard that the school that serves the Crystal Valley area has a predominant hispanic population. Is it true don't know just what I read here. Sorry if that is not true. I have no problem with a school that is multi-racial and in fact we prefer it. The Parker rules I also, got off here. What I poorly described was related to the HOA's which I suppose can apply to any community.

Default Louisville PnR <-> DTC

We're doing the same commute in a carpool!
A regular drive in in the morning (7:45 AM) is about 45 mins, since we get to use the HOV lanes on US-36 & I-25.
The return drive leaving at about 4:45 PM takes 1 hour.

An accident throws everything off-balance. Look at alternatives (I-225 to I-70 to I-270 particularly on the return, or the C-470 - CO 93 route).
On horrendously bad traffic days, we have used E-470 to come back home. $12, 60+ miles one-way, but worth the peace of mind!

Galaril has confused an earlier post in a different thread about South High School in Denver, a part of DPS and South Street Elementary School in Castle Rock, a part of DCSD.

Suffice it to say they are not the same, and should not be confused for each other.
