The absolutely most popular guys in UFC right now is:
YOU BETCHA
GEORGES "RUSH" ST PIERRE, a pasty white frenchie from outside of montreal, quebec, canada
before him you had chuck liddell, Randy Couture, but you have way way more white boys fighting MMA than Black guys or brazilians
Has there ever been a UFC Card where there were not lots of white guys on the card?
About Japan:
Some of their biggest mma fighters like shinya aoki, Takanori Gomi, Yoshida(judo goldmedalist), tatsuya kawajiri, are the ones that bring in the dollars, not the other white or black guys that fight overseas
Why do you think UFC just signed Akiyama, because he is korean, and they want in that market
anyways we are getting way off topic, I think I posted this in the wrong thread
Boxing will always be around, because stand-up striking is alone more spectator friendly than prolonged grappling with strikes
As evidenced by wrestlers like koscheck trying to stand and bang to gain greater appreciation from the fans

Krud, they just dont understand. there's actually a lot that they dont understand.
one thing that they cannot wrap their minds around is the fact that our love and enjoyment of MMA is in no way dependent on its popularity with and acceptance by the masses. they make the same arguement as if they were saying that since Fast and Furious 6 made a hundred million dollars - it is a good movie. and since Pulp Fiction was not a Box Office success, it was not a good movie.
[they] dont realize how hollow and meaningless it is when they bring up statistics, and numbers relating to buy rates or fight purses paid. nor do they consider how meaningless their incorrect and ignorant marketing analysis and race baiting are to us.
we just go on enjoying MMA as it remains the fastest growing sport in the world, and continue to have respect and appreciation for western style boxing for it's skill, athleticism, and it's contribution to MMA. no MMA guys have started any threads on City Data berating the sport of boxing. it is these ignorant, heads up their asses, hateful, jealous, fearful boxing fans (who dont even watch MMA - ever) who start all these un-informed, offensive, hateful, racist, incredibly stupid threads that berate MMA and MMA fans and practitioners. unless, i'm mistaken, it was a boxing fan that started the thread entitled, "Heavyweight Boxing is a Joke", and from a consumer standpoint, the guy has a point.

you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. GSP isnt the most popular guy in the UFC right now. if he were American, he might be, but he's French Canadian. he's popular. because he's dominant. but he isnt the most popular guy.
im not condemning boxing or saying it wont be around. and yeah, stand up striking is somewhat more spectator friendly than grappling, but, i would say that striking in MMA is even more spectacular than in boxing. it is also a fact that even the MMA viewing casual fans are getting smarter and more knowledgeable about the sport and are gaining more and more appreciation for all aspects of the sport. we're starting to hear a lot of cheers when a fighter pulls guard from an inferior position. the fans understand what is happening on the ground.
as for Koscheck, well:
in the past there have been MMA champions - dominant champions who possess no other skill besides the highest calibre of wrestling. that's getting harder to do, because most MMA fighters are well rounded, possessing skills in at least Wrestling or Brazilian Jiujitsu and Boxing or Kickboxing. on the other hand, MMA fighters who possess only boxing skills would be lucky to ever even win a fight. these days, to be skilled in striking and grappling is almost required as per the evolution of the sport.
so, for Koscheck to improve his once rudimentary striking, was propbably more in the interest of winning fights and having a successful carreer than to engraciate himself to the fans.

Koscheck's nickname is the blanket and that is not meant in a good way
they should allow for more strikes in mma like knee to the heads, strikes to the back of the head, head stomps, soccer kicks, kicks to the knee cap, all of it
If GSP is not the most popular guy in the UFC, then who is ?

So if a white guy is popular, it's because of racism? I guess there are no other reasons for someone to like a white guy.

and btw, Josh Koscheck never had the nickname of "the Blanket". just because one person goes and dicks with his wikipedia page, doesnt make something a fact.

That said, I think there are some inaccuracies in your post, Alexus.
- I don't think MMA fans are anti-black. Anderson Silva, Anthony Johnson, Rashad Evans, etc. are all well liked.
- Some of the biggest stars in the sport - GSP, BJ Penn, Randy Couture, etc. aren't one-punch KO artists. In fact, those three probably have love KO rates, at least in the early rounds. If they are so popular, they can't mean that all MMA fans are seeking the quickest KO possible.
Personally, I prefer five-round wars that go everywhere. Fights like Nog vs. Fedor, Huerta vs. Guida, etc.

Thank you!.. I've gravitated more and more to MMA, but I will always love the sweet science and have respect for all combat athletes. Each person who competes goes through hell to get ready and win or lose, you have to give them props for even stepping into the ring or cage.
As far as fans being race haters..I doubt it as well. They want to see two skilled combatants mix it up, no matter what color they are. Fans just want a good fight, period, racial politics aside. In fact, I've really found MMA to be an all inclusive and accepting sport, fighters and fans alike.

Have you been an mma fan for long?
Well it was more of an insulting pet name given to him by lots of the fans, since he never had an official nickname from the UFC, but UFC gives the worst nicknames anyways, like ken-flo, or nightmare, all corny
It has nothing to do with his wiki page
anyways lets try to stay on topic
