This is an outstanding movie. I highly recommend it. The movie does not cover the Gotti fights, but it does cover fights leading up to his championship.
As a boxing movie, I would rate it as 8.5 out of 10. With the Raging Bull as the complete best 10 out of 10.
I've heard a lot of good things about it. From that and the clips I've seen, it seems Bale is the standout. I agree that Raging Bull is the boxing movie by which we judge all other boxing movies. I will make a point of seeing this.
THE FIGHTER was filmed in my home town of Lowell, MA!!!!
It's an outstanding movie, a must see, if I say so myself....
The people from Lowell embraced this movie because it is a true life story of Micky Ward, someone I know personally!!!! The Lowellians came out full force to help in any way to help with the production of the movie.
Mark Wahlberg & Christian Bail are outstanding in their roles, with OSCAR NOMINATIONS coming their way!!! Mark felt comfortable back in his home of Boston. He was perfect for the role and portrayed Micky to the fullest!!!
I am proud to be from Lowell, proud of what Mickey accomplished, and proud that it was filmed in my hometown!!!!!
Ward was an overrated sucky fighter who is only "famous" because of his brutal beatdowns suffered by another supremely overrated low talent fighter Arturo Gatti. The movie may be good, but I have no interest in seeing it. There are waaaaaaaay too many other fighters out there who are actually good and talented with interesting backgrounds and lives that should have movies made about them (Edison Miranda, Diego Corrales, etc.) and not these no talent hack white guys like Ward or Tommy Morrison. Im half Irish and even I know that Ward sucked as a fighter so its not about race.

Your thoughts?
I'm so excited to see it!!! Can't wait.
