It looks like Juan Manuel Marquez will get his long-awaited third fight with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com that he made a deal with Marquez on Tuesday in Los Angeles for the lightweight champion to move up in weight to challenge Pacquiao for his welterweight title on Nov. 12.

Arum, however, still needs to make a deal with Pacquiao -- considered a formality -- before the fight is official.

If the fight is finalized, they would meet at a contract weight of 144 pounds, Arum said. Although the weight is three pounds below the welterweight division limit of 147, that isn't an issue.[full story]

Hopefully Marquez not only wins his July bout with Diaz, but doesn't take too much punishment while doing it. I would like to see these two at their best with no excuses and hopefully this fight will have a more conclusive outcome free of controversy.

Both fights between Marquez and Pacquiao could have gone either way. Awesome fights.

For fight III Pac is way up there 147 lbs while Marquez is barely 140 lbs. I wonder how they will work that out. Not sure if Marquez is as efective in the 140s .

Yeah, a lot of people feel that Marquez should have one at least one if not both fights. They were great fights and this one should hopefully pick up where they left off. They've agreed to a catch weight of 144.

I don't like the weight they're fighting at, too high for Marquez.

Marquez is normally 135 and an inch or so taller than Manny. Manny came into his last couple of fights at around 145, he doesn't put on ten pounds the day of the fight, he stays a couple of pounds within the weigh in. When Marquez fought Mayweather he was 142 in the ring, Mayweather was 146 at weigh in and refused to be weighed before going into the ring as most fighters do. It's estimated he entered the ring close to 160 against Marquez and he was visibly the much bigger man in the ring. I don't see Manny having a tremendous size advantage the way Mayweather did.

i dont think thats the problem..the problem is anything over 140 for Marquez is bad news..it slows him down and he didnt manage to bring any power up with him...but this time he's brought on specialist and experts to help him bring his speed and power up with his weight increase..if so, then we're in for a good fight until Manny is too much for him and results in a TKO..

Marquez has beaten Manny before..but technically he lost due to points..but the 2004,2008 Manny isnt the same 2010,2011 monster we see now..Marquez will be overwhelmed in the middle to late rounds.

No, it would seem that's what Team Pacquiao wanted if this site is to believed:

pacquiao vs marquez 3 | watch pacquiao vs marquez 3 online (http://watch-pacquiao-vs-marquez-3-now.blogspot.com/2011/09/marquez-admits-he-prefer-140-141-catch.html - broken link)

Marquez quoted “The both of us are small boxers, and I think for an enhanced bout, it’d be better if we would’ve fought at 140, 141 tops. It would be a better match because we’re smaller men. He requested for 144 lbs., so we grabbed it. But I think if we fought at a lesser weight, it would be better.”

this is from Marquez himself after Pacquiao/Mosley

As quoted by Ricardo Lois of the examiner, Marquez appeared on ESPN’s Golpe a Golpe and said that he was willing to face Manny Pacquiao at a catch weight between 140 and 147-pounds. Marquez would like a catch-weight of 143 or 144-pounds.

“First Pacquiao would have to accept, but I would fight him at a catch-weight of 143 or 144 pounds” Marquez said.

As what I posted is in quotation marks, supposedly it too is from Marquez himself.
