Default Peterson vs Khan

This should be a good fight. Khan is good against mediocre opponents. This time he is fighting someone that I feel is legit. I will step out on a limb and predict Peterson by a decision. Thoughts?

I've been looking forward to this bout. I haven't been terribly impressed with Khan's resumè outside of Maidana. Zab Judah was just a name. I think Lamont is the kind of fighter that can force Amir out if his comfort zone and gradually wear him down. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peterson get a late round knockdown en route to a decision victory.

This should be the biggest test for each of them. Outside of Bradley who he lost to, Peterson really hasn't had very stiff competition either. I'm thinking Khan wins a comfortable UD victory.

Very good fight. Possible fight of the year imho. Have to give Khan credit for coming to Peterson's hometown for the fight. Could there have been some home cooking? Yeah, it's possible, it happens. It's also important to note that the knockdown that Khan scored in round 1 was more the result of a forearm shiver rather than a punch, so that offsets one of the point deductions. However, I don't want to take away anything from the fact that Peterson fought hard and I can't be mad with the decision. Coolhand said that this would be the biggest test of both of their careers and I have to agree. Interesting thing is, though Lamont got the nod, I think both men passed the test.

Side note, I certainly hate when British boxers fight and British fans feel the need to bring those stupid and obnoxious horns. Those need to banned at the door.

This was a very good fight. I rightly predicted that Peterson would win, but I don't like the circumstances because the referee was absolutely horrible and one sided. I had it even until the last 3 rounds. I thought Khan sweep those championship rounds which would, in my eyes, make him the winner. Next fight should be on neutral grounds.

Great fight, unfortunately tainted with a controversial outcome. While watching this fight I too noted that Khan was pushing Peterson and wondered when the ref was going to warn him. He was also pushing Peterson's head down everytime he tried to work on the inside and on several occasions used his elbow to push off. The ref should have formally warned Khan that he was going to take a point next time he pushed Peterson. Not sure if that would have deterred him or not, but it would have been the righ thing to do. The irony here is that Khan new the risks of fighting in Peterson's backyard.

Either way it's a close fight that I'd like to see again. Both of them fought their hearts out and put on a great show.

I agree about those damn air horns too. I could not sit through a live event with some jackass behind me blowing them things in my ear all night. They should be banned in the U.S.

I think I read somewhere that Peterson said he'd be open to fighting Khan in the U.K. That would be real gutsy and classy of him to return the favor, but barring a knockout I think we all know how that will end.

Before the first point deduction, though he didn't momentarily stop the fight to give Khan a formal warning, the mic clearly picked up on him tell Khan that he was giving him a final warning for pushing. Even after losing a point, Amir still was doing a lot of pushing as Peterson was constantly crowding him to take away some of Khan's hand speed. Yeah the ref should've given him a formal warning or another "final" warning before taking away the second point, but he had let him get away with a lot of shoving and pushing Peterson's head down in between the two point deductions.

There's no doubt in my mind that Khan is clearly the more talented boxer. His hand speed is amazing imo. Both men proved that their chins are solid. I didn't care for the excessive amount of running that Khan did. I understand the need to retreat sometimes when you're in a bad situation, however, Khan wasn't simply on his bicycle, he had a motorcycle in there! Even worse, on several occasions when Lamont was working him over on the ropes, he would somehow get himself turned completely around forcing the ref to break them as there was no way that he could (legally) be hit. Smart tactic I guess, but he really should have won this fight if not for antics like this and the running, shoving, headlocks, etc.

Yeah if that happened to me after I paid my hard earned money for a ticket, win, lose or draw, there would likely be a fight in audience.

Additionally, I was impressed by Seth Mitchell. He's not quite ready for a Klitschko yet, but he seems like a legit American heavyweight unlike Arreola, Brock, Thompson, etc. Has power, but didn't get in there and just start brawling. He was methodical and made short work of a seasoned veteran. Looking forward to seeing him fight again.

I did not see the fight so I cannot comment with my own opinions. Reading recaps, however, at ESPN it sounds like there's room to discuss the fairness of officiating and judging integrity.

From ESPN:

Quote:
Judges Valerie Dorsett and George Hill each had it 113-112 for Peterson, and Nelson Vazquez had it 115-110 for Khan. ESPN.com had it 114-111, for Khan, as did HBO's unofficial scorer, Harold Lederman, who had it 113-112.

Good fight I thought Khan won, there will be a rematch no doubt. And what's wrong with horns! It's called an atmosphere!

I agree on the points about Khan receiving warnings (he even admitted it during the post fight interview), and for him and Roach to accuse Peterson of charging in with his head was whining at the very least. When fighter wants to get inside it's a common tactic to bury your head in his chest and fire away at the body so you smother him and take away his range. Khan didn't like that and resorted to illegal tactics. I also agree that he did way too much running for my liking. He's a highly skilled fighter with good hand speed and a decent chin (though Peterson isn't that big a puncher), but he doesn't know how to work off the ropes and gets rattled when pressed.

Seth Mitchell looked impressive. I too look forward to seeing more of him. Hopefully a fight between him and Arreola isn't too far off.

"Atmosphere" is great when you are at in outdoor venue like a soccer or football game (even then those horns are just obnoxious), not inside a closed arena, and certainly not at the expense of other fans who paid good money for their seats as well.
