I don't understand how some can think like this. I'm sure you've heard it before as well. Watching himin the ring is like poetry. Systematically adapting to any style fighter. Breaking them down and frustrating the opponent, pulling them out of their gameplan. Making opponents miss consistently, but not miss in just one way to where the opposition can eventually land something significant. In watching his fights it's fascinating to watch how he can make the same opponent miss shots consistently, but not in the same way.
OP, I agree. Those people who hate Mayweather's style don't understand Boxing, or watch Boxing for the knockouts. To be honest, I cannot stand the guy and plus he ducks people...on those 2 fronts that's where he loses me.
He is certainly a gifted athlete and an excellent defensive fighter, especially against fighters who are past their prime or B level at best. But boxing is more than just defense, you have to mix it up and entertain the fans. He typically throws less than 35 punches per round and is more content to steal rounds in the last 30 seconds than fight for all three minutes. He has found a recipe for success in the ring and his style has served him and his fans well.
Mayweather is a master technician. It's amazing to watch sometimes...however most of his fights are still pretty boring, watching the other guy get frustrated and quit trying isn't that exciting imo.
I'll give it to him, but why brag about it. His time will come one day when he gets clocked.
