When Floyd retires, where will he be on your ATG list? Sure, there are some opponents he could have fought (Pacquiao, but I think he would have beaten him anyway, prime Cotto, Tszyu), but he still has some good names on his resume, such as Marquez, Judah, and Corrales). There's absolutely no questioning his talent and skills.
Mayweather is big on saying one fight will not define his legacy but I don't think anybody buys that.
Bottom line, if he doesn't suck it up and fight Pacquiao, any claims regarding his greatness will have to be viewed in light of the fact that he ducked probably the only credible opposition to his throne for the better part of a decade.
At one time, Pacman might've been to Mayweather what Duran was to Ray Leonard in Duran-Leonard I. This doesn't mean that Floyd would've lost to Pacman the way Leonard lost to Duran, just that Pacman would've made for an interesting fight. But this fight didn't happen because Pacman demanded a 50-50 split, and I found this unreasonable. It is not right to demand a 50-50 split with an undefeated fighter like Mayweather, especially when you already have been beaten three times. A thrice-beaten, but popular Manny does NOT equal and UNDEFEATED Floyd Mayweather. A 5-time loser does not equal an undefeated Mayweather. Floyd has this right. He maintains his dignity and self-respect in telling Pacman to go to hell. Pacman relieved because he knows he has little chance against the far more talented Floyd. I don't think Manny could've beaten Floyd at any time. Floyd is simply far too good.
About where Mayweather ranks, on my list he's ranked well above Ray Leonard, somewhere in the top 10.
