Talking Gated Communities

Hi, you will like Palm Bay but as another poster said you will find more to do in Melbourne. I too moved here 2 years ago and found a lovely brand new house to move into and was quite happy until the fires and had to move. At first I thought I would go to Bayside Lakes until I found out there was a bidding war going on there for rentals. We lost out $100 two times just trying to get a rent there. Then we found the Lakes at Waterstone and thought we found our dream come true! The day we signed our agreement we found out there was no pool no club house and no workout facilities! Today I got a notice in my mail I was in violation that I left my garbage pail out past the 5:00 time limit! Excuse me! I am so sorry I moved here. The people I have met are so snobby and stuck up you don't even want to get to know them far less want them as your new friends. Honey, there are lots of nice houses out there to rent and to buy...I say find one. These gated communites are pretty but that's it. I am so afraid now when my car needs to be washed that...gee to I have to take it somewhere to be detailed? Or will I be in some kind of violation if I wash it in my driveway???? OH heaven forbid! Good luck to you, and welcome to FLorida! The beaches are great !

I have been researching homes for sale in the Melbourne/Palm Bay areas and have noticed an unusually abundant amount of homes for sale in Palm Bay as compared to most other cities in Florida. It appears as though people are leaving Palm Bay for some reason. Does anyone know why?

People with who have an above average income and school aged children don't choose Palm Bay because of the schools. We have been steered away from Palm Bay by two realtors b/c of the schools and when you mention to any native of Brevard County that you are looking in Palm Bay you get a reaction of horror. We decided not to look there any more b/c of the quality of the schools. Even if you don't have children it will affect your resale in the future. You might not like paying higher taxes, but you get what you pay for in most instances.

I love community service so I hope there are opportunities to give back. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you.
I live in the SE section of Palm Bay near Bayside. In those subdivisions you will be pretty far South and it will take you about a half hour to get a lot of places you will want to go. I would say there are probably more retirees and families in the SE section of town. My son who is single has a house down here too, but usually drives North for most social activities with his friends. They think his home is too far out of the way for the most part.

Like others have said Palm Bay is a growing community. We went from 19000 people in 1976 to a little over 100,000 by the the late 90s. Too fast growth means roads and utilities of cities are far behind sort of. Mostly it is a sleeping community of families with a few apartment complexes. You won't find a lot of street lights, sidewalks or bike paths in a lot of the areas. The biggest share of homes have wells and septic tanks; but there are some areas with city water and sewer. But man, walk out your door at night and you will see more stars than you can imagine. You can watch the rockets launch from your yard and you can get to Orlando in a little over an hour, Jacksonville, Tampa, and the Miami area in about 3 hours.

Brevard county has a lot of little towns that share boundaries and often you don't even remember which town you are in. You may sleep in one but you sort of live in all of them. For example if a business is on the North side of Palm Bay Rd from Babcock Street to Minton Rd you are either in Melbourne or West Melbourne. The South side of the road d is Palm Bay. East of Babcock Street you are in Palm Bay on both sides of the road, but before you get to Palm Bay high school you will be in Melbourne.
So you will find that you live in Palm Bay, might work in Melbourne, eat lunch in West Melbourne and dinner in Indiatlantic , go to the beach in Indian Harbor Beach, have drinks in Indiatlantic etc because all the towns border each other. No big deal. Merrit Island, Cocoa Beach, Sebastian, and Vero Beach are all within about 20-30 miles and you will go most of those places on a regular basis. Everything is sort of spread out instead of up so you will need a car to get anywhere. We do have a bus system but it really is not convenient for most people and it might add 3 hours to your work day if you use it to get to work.

Palm Bay does have a branch of BCC where you can take classes from UCF and UF in some majors. We do have some restaurants that aren't the typical chains that offer pretty good food. The younger crowd mostly goes to other areas for clubbing- most places are very casual here.

Greetings Everyone,

I grew up in Palm Bay and then joined the Air Force. About to retire and looking forward to returning home. Now I need some advice, my family has moved from the area but I would like to bring my wife and finally plant roots in Palm Bay. I know things have changed I can't tell you how sad I was when I looked on Google Maps and seen how much it has changed.

I'm looking for a nice area where I can build or own a house that isn't surrounded by other houses. I would like some privacy and room to grow or build. Also would like to know where the questionable areas are to avoid them. It has been a long time and in about three years I will finally be back to good ole Palm Bay.

Thank you for the assist.

V/R,

D

I am thinking about moving to Palm Bay or Sebastian. I am retired/disabled. I want a house for less than 65,000. Is that possible there. I do not want to live in a bad/high crime neighboorhood. I hate areas like Barefoot Bay while the houses are nice, if I had to live that close to anyone I would be miserable. I would appreciate any information. Iwant a quiet laid back area.

Thank you
