Default Events, happenings, festivals, etc... happening in Brevard County

Maybe we could do like the Orlando Board and have it stay up as a sticky ?

There is a pretty good list for starters on this site..... Ron Jon's Easter Surf Contest has a lot going on.....Easter Egg Hunts in many towns.....check your church, school, etc. for activities too. Several high schools have concerts or plays soon....".Kiss Me Kate" at Bayside weekend of 12th.

BrevardTimes: Easter Egg Hunts & Activities Around Brevard Easter Weekend 2012: Bring the Kids & Families

On Saturday night Bill O'Reily is at the Kings Center......Bill Maher is there the 28th.....

Think forward to first week in May the 3 day Runaway Country Concerts are at Wickham Park. General admission for all 3 days is about $120 but can buy single day, too. Lots of fun last year.....good concerts.

If you have Florida 4 day pass or annual passes Epcot Flower Show is still on and worth a drive over.

Sea world will be opening their new Turtle Trek area later this month.

Walk old Downtown Melbourne and see the shops and have a great lunch in one of the restaurants.
Destination restaurant right now for my friends and me is the Mansion rooftop.

Go watch for manateesand gators at Goode Park boat dock off Port Malabar Blvd.

Go to Turkey Creek Sanctuary and take the canoe landing trek to see the creek and possibly turtles(always) huge gar fish swimming in the water, gators, manatees, raccoons, gopher turtles, the hammoch and sand pine forrest and different ground cover.....

Sea Turtles are hitting the nesting season so quiet nighttime walks on the beach to watch one come in and lay eggs will be a good thing to do.

Go on an Indian River nature cruise or head to the St. Johns for an air boat ride.

There's also the qambling ship that goes out twice a day.

Go to Port Canaveral and see what ships are in......

Head to Vero Beach to the outlet mall

Thanks for posting these things. I wouldn't know about many of them if you hadn't. Is there a good resource - maybe a web page- where one can find out about local events? I know there have to be more things like the ones you named.

Florida Today----check them out on line....they list all kinds of things to do, bars and restaurants and who is playing on there entertainment pages....also check school calendars, city web pages, parks and recreation pages, King Center page etc. There is usually a lot to do around here.

I don't think I included the Manatees games as a destination.....if you happen to go on the 11,12, or 13, you might just see my cousin playing 3rd base for the Blue Jays. He was 16th over all draft pick in 2007; but so far has not done really great in the minors. Fingers crossed that he will move to Triple A team this year. They usually have some pretty good fireworks out there after the games, too.

There are also several places on the beach to go to Sunrise Services Easter morning, too.

Another idea is the ocean center place( big white modern building-for the life of me can't remember the name of it) south of Melbourne Beach before you get to the inlet. They have good displays and lectures etc. to teach you and your kids about the ocean. Cool place.

BTW did I mention Sebastian Inlet? Fun place to go with kids... State park so there is a charge to get in, but you can get a year pass. There's a fishing bridge than you can walk over the inlet and watch boats come in and out, the fishing pier, the museum on the South side of the inlet, picnic area, swimming beach, surfing beach, and a tide pool where little ones can play. Love the place.

Just south of the inlet is the Treasure Museum which has good displays and stuff to see etc.

Museums of Brevard County, Florida

Here's another great list

Things to Do in Melbourne, FL with Kids - Children Activities in Melbourne for Kids & Family - Uptake.com

It lists duplicates but some new ideas, too. Just bypass the ones that seem more like adds like Payless, LOL

Have you taken walks at Turkey Creek in Palm Bay or Erna Nixon Park in Melbourne? Turkey Creek has a building with hands on displays etc.

Take the kids fishing or just a picnic at Cast Away Point Park in Palm Bay. It is a pretty little park where you can fish from the piers or from the sand beach area. Has restrooms, grills. I don't remember if there is a playground. I wouldn't feel comfortable going there without a group or at least my husband because it is sort of secluded on the river.

BTW have you seen the Palm Bay Swimming Pool? It isn't just a normal rectangle of water........

Also have you checked out the rec centers to see what classes are available for you and the kids. Also leagues for men are available again and fees aren't expensive.

This fall choose a high school football team to backeven though you didn't go there and go to the games, go to the marching band competitions, high school Wind Ensemble and Orchestra concerts, chorus concerts, and plays. You will be surprised at how good they are and how much fun they are. Also there are lots of different concerts at the King Center featuring Brevard Orchestra , school county orchestras etc. that are very good and not as expensive as the name type concerts. . They also usually have Children's plays.

Even though we live here it is still a blast to be a tourist. Just going to a beach in Volusia or Indian River Counties is like taking a vacation without paying thousands of dollars and we always discover something new.

Love New Smyrna, love Golden Sands Beach in Vero Beach, love South Daytona Beach and the Ponce Inlet lighthouse area. We find that there are just too much to do and sometimes I feel like work just gets in the way.

People here are really friendly, too. I wondered if it was like going to Food and Wine at Epcot which adds up when it costs about $5 for each 3 bite sample, so I sent an e-mail.....heard back from them the same day....You pay to get in, but samples are free. There is entertainment, and you can learn how to cook from the chefs...Sounds like a lot of fun.. Last year was more expensive so didn't go...Price this year is more in our ballpark, but it is the weekend before Runaway Country which is going to cost a little for the 3 days of concerts and the Melbourne Art Fair is that weekend too. Just too much to do and not sure work will cooperate with all the time off-2 weekends in a row. LOL

The main thing is.....if you move to Cocoa Beach just think of it as moving to the Space Coast and watch for things to do in all the different communities.. All the towns share boundary lines basically so probably is no different than going to something on the other side of the city. LOL Only you do need a car........

I am definitely bringing my car, that is not an issue thankfully. I see what you are saying about the whole space coast being like one big town in a way, but from what I have been reading it seems that there are some areas that are not as nice and others that are really geared towards families.

I am 32 and single, so my priority would be to live near other people like myself and ideally within walking distance or otherwise reasonably close to nightlife and the beach. Renting a beach accessible apartment would be ideal.

I'm a nurse so if I wound up there I would be working at one of the area hospitals, but not sure where yet since its a bit too early for me to apply being that I can't move for several months.

it is sor

Brevard isn't really a walkable community for the most part . I was just meaning don't limit yourself to a 4 block area when it comes to doing things. Drive to the places where things are happening that week.

I am definitely out of the clubbing age, but it seems like downtown Melbourne has the most pubs, restaurants, and shops in a 4 block area and is even a cruise ship excursion for the ships originating in NY; but I wouldn't really want to live in that area. Cocoa Beach has a few places around Minuteman but it is quite a walk to the places at the pier from there etc. . It would be safe to live in that area, though. It probably draws more of the younger single crowd than other areas on the beach.

Apartments on the beach are kind of rare, but you might be able to rent a condo right on the beach or even a house within walking distance. Just remember that in Cocoa Beach everything on A1A isn't beachfront like it is in some areas. You can be 2-3 blocks from the water on A1A in some areas.
