We didn't buy flood insurance when we moved to this house in Palm Bay. Wasn't required . It is in an X area and we had driven by the house a few times after big rain storms. The ditches/swale along road didn't flood; but since we moved in and the city put in water lines the water came up in the yard after a big rain that dropped inches quickly. It went down fast; but if a tropical storm drops 25 inches in a day like Faye did, we may not be too lucky. So getting quotes but wondering if too high. How much do you pay for your flood insurance? For 150,000 build and 60,000 contents is $313 high? I always thought flood insurance was in the low 200s for almost everyone.

Don't know how rates are figured. But, our policy from Foremost thru 2012 has a total premium cost of $313.00 and has coverage of $150,000 for building and $60,000 for contents. Interesting huh? Oh, and our house sits 3ft. above street level and we have 2 large drainage grates/pipes on either side of the front yard to funnel runoff to the diversion canal in the back. Would think that would count for something.

On another note, reps for all of the info. you provide on life in Palm Bay/Melbourne. So many of your links go directly to my "Things To Do" file in favorites on my computer.

Thanks for replying....so it must be the normal amount they hand out for us in Palm Bay.....we have the traditional ditch out front of the house. House is built above road level with drive on a small incline, but newer house built in 2006 next to us is up higher so may have to worry about that a little.

As for things to do....decided to start listing them because people keep saying they can't find anything to do here.
We try to find different things to do every week-keeping it on the cheap side so we can do the more expensive stuff when company from North comes down. Might hit EPCOT or Animal Kingdom for Mother's Day lunch though....
