My job is moving to Melbourne in the next few months, it is a part of the Northrop Grumman move to Florida. I have the option of moving down there or taking a similar position back here in NY.

I am looking for some advice, i am 30 years old, single and dont really have much keeping me in NY. I play poker , so seeing that there is that dog racing track that also has a 50 table poker room in the area is nice. I am wondering is does this neighborhood have alot of people my age? Also , i would be looking to get a 1 bedroom apartment in a nice complex, price shouldnt be a problem, what are the nicest places I should be looking at ? I am used to apt prices of 1500+ for garbage 1 bedrooms in NY, so price will not be a problem down there. id lke to be near nightlife, but i guess being right by the beach would be a plus too, i wouldnt want to be anywhere near any kind of ghetto, , so can anyone advise me on what the nicest 1 bedroom apts in the area are?

There's plenty to do on the coast, but it is also possible to head into Orlando for some nightlife since it isn't far. Since you would be working for Grummin, I'd advise living close to the coast. Don't limit yourself to apartments, though there are some descent ones, check out condo rentals, too. Personally if you can afford it, I would find a place beachside. 2nd choice, there are some apartments/condos in Viera that would be 20 minute max from work, the beach, Cocoa Beach and the clubs in Downtown Melbourne where younger crowd hangs out, close to I-95 to get up to Orlando for magic games and nightlife when you want to etc. Several of the younger women at work rent in Viera and like it there.

I think you should check out Viera. Everything is new and with wide sidewalks everywhere. People biking, jogging and waking dogs all the itme. Laid back atmosphere and stores/restaurants within 2-3 miles. Approximately 30% retirees, 40% young families/singles; 30% families with grown kids.

Beach side will be more desirable for a younger single person in my opinion. Nothing wrong with Viera if you are planning a family soon.

Probably best to stay in NY. A lot of New Yorkers complain A LOT when they leave NY no matter where it is. I guess it's just their annoying personality. lol Melbourne is not a spot for some one to expect a fast pace with always something to do. It's more suited for people who have families. Crime is low. Everything you need basically is right there. The traffic hour is a complete joke. So no bumper to bumper sitting in traffic for over an hour.

Amazingly there are tons of NY transplants there. They complain but never leave. It's an easy going town without the hustle and bustle. One bedroom apartments in a decent area will cost you $600 per month and up. Palm Bay could also can be considered.

Since you like to gamble, I think they still have Casino Cruises going out in Cape Canaveral. That is almost about a hour ride from Melbourne.
