Looking for roofing contractor recommendations that are licensed and well priced.

Got a couple of estimates/quotes on a re-roof of a house. They said it is "20 squares" and the prices are coming in at $7,500 to $9,000. Just a standard hip/gable roof with a one car attached garage.

I'm in Illinois and I personally think this is extremely high. I got estimates on our roof in Illinois (very similar size) and the prices were all over the board - from about $4,500 as the lowest up to $9,000 as well.

So there has to be reputable, licensed roofers out there that have better pricing I would think.

Difference in price may be the tear off of the old roof. Was it reshingled right on top of the old shingles so there are multi layers? Did one roofer realize there was rotted wood and put that into the cost? Those prices sound like they are in the ball park for a 2000 sq. ft. 1 story home, though. A 2 story is another story on price, though.Chimneys, sky lights etc add to the price, too. Friends with asmaller house paid in the $7000 range. Home advisor site said most in South Brevard pay between $6900 and 10,400.

Nope, only one row of singles on this roof. This house is about 1,200 square feet with a one car garage, so that makes it fairly close to 1,500 square feet.

Sounds about right. Building code requirements can add a lot to costs as the have to make it and install a new roof to code.

Same company we used, and we were quite happy. The price was about $4.00/sq. ft. Bear in mind that a roof's square footage will almost always be higher than that of the house's footprint, due to peaks and slope... unless you have a flat roof.
