Serious considerations of moving to Melbourne taking place and am wondering a few things from locals:
1. Is area around Sarno Road safe (crime, walkable, pets)?
2. Not many houses on Line Road and older photos seem to show water damaged houses. Does this flood/storm surge frequently?
3. Coming from no hurricane area, how impactful on daily life are these?
4. Keeping the thought of above, is the hurricane cloth better, worse, no difference from the metal shuttering systems?

I'm sure to have more questions but I'll start with those.

Since safety is relative to your experience I always recommend people call the police station. They know everything that is happening in the area and can give you a true picture.
I have been here for 6 years and only this year has a hurricane affected my life in any way. We left for hurricane Matthew and went to the west coast and came home to minimal damage, and I live a few houses from the beach. You want to have the coverage and have it organized. Once that's done there is plenty of warning when a hurricane is coming so you can prepare. Many people just ride it out in their homes.
I don't know anyone that has the hurricane cloth, as it is relatively new. Seems like an interesting concept, but I'd be worried insurance companies would decide it wasn't safe enough and then there would be no discount.
Good luck with your relocation & let me know if I can be of any help.
