Hello,
My husband may get new job offer in Port Canaveral. WE are looking for an area to to move which is close to that place and also has little urban touch with great schools and good neighbourhood. we came across Viera/ Rockledge area. if anyone know any other place which is within 1/2 hr commute from Port Canaveral and good place to live please recommend. Also if anyone can give more information about how nice Viera is to raise family. /we are looking for great school district.
your input will be greatly appreciated
thanks

Viera is a nice place to live with very good schools, if you like a newer, planned community with mostly cookie cutter style housing. Many families prefer this to the older styles you find in communities like Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, and Merritt Island. I personally didn't like it as much and the prices have risen to a point that can make it hard on many families to afford something nice there. I prefer to be closer to the water, beach side or canal front. Give Satellite Beach a look too if you are OK with older builds, but still a great community and schools.
If you want to be close to the Port, try Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island. Many choices and cheaper in Merritt Island and still decent schools.

For a commute that is 30 minutes or less look at Cocoa, Titusville, or the northern part of Merritt Island. All those towns have some dicey sections, but also some nice areas.

Viera is a longer commute due to heavy traffic. A recent drive I took from Viera to Merritt Island (near the mall) took me 40 minutes. Getting to Port Canaveral would have added at least another 10 minutes to the trip. Unfortunately what seems to be a short distance on a map is nowhere close to short when it comes to dealing with traffic.

Regarding Satellite Beach: It is a very nice town. However the commute to the Port would not be within your 30 minute preference. Whenever I drove to the Port from Satellite Beach it took me about 40 minutes. The problem is going through Cocoa Beach, which has a 35 mph speed limit for much of the way. This section can be bypassed by doing a loop towards the west, but going that much out of the way does not necessarily save time.

Thank you for your reply and I just liked Viera , but long drive is the thing I do not like. Is this traffic bad at certain time or all day like this? if my husband goes to work @6;30 and comes back @4:00 do you think traffic is too much at that time? I am also looking for place where there are more Asian Indian population. In satellite beach, Merrit Island and cocoa does not have more Indian population. please give me more information if you have any.

Thanking you

At 6:30 AM the drive would be much faster from Viera. He may be able to do it in 30 minutes, depending on where his office in Cape Canaveral is located. At 4 PM he will see a lot more traffic.

I suggest you use the 'Directions' feature of Google Maps ( https://www.google.com/maps ) It lets you put in an exact time for the trip. I just did it for 4 PM and got an estimate of 28-45 minutes. If your husband's office is at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, the time would be longer, because it is further north.

Viera is an excellent place to raise children, couldn't ask for more. I have 3 children and chose Viera in '09 because of that reason.
I love living here and the schools are hands down the best in the county.
Manatee Elementary in particular.
There's also Ralph Williams in Rockledge, Viera Charter and Viera High.
We do not have a middle school unfortunately, other than Viera Charter.
If you're into biking trails there's plenty, good shopping, golf, parks and the Stadium.
Also consider there is an I95 diamond interchange going up at the end of Viera Blvd at the Fisk intersection which will, once completed alleviate some of that commute.
