I am moving to Palm Bay for work. Empty nesters looking for a nice area to live. We would love to be near the water but also have easy access to shopping restaurants etc. We have been looking all over in places such as Vero and Merritt island. Are there any areas closer to Palm bay that would work? Would love to have some land and not be on top of our neighbors as well. Our budget is 750,000

Two thoughts spring to mind:

* Find the intersection of US 1 and Malabar Road, right along the river. If you go west on Malabar Road, I remember some decent-looking places with plenty of elbow room along that road or off on the side streets to the south. Malabar Road is a big shopping zone once you get to Babcock/I-95. Alternatively, go south on US 1 and look for places down that way. It's more remote from shopping and dining but the views are great if you can find a place near the river. And at $750k, riverfront's not out of the question by any means.

* If your work is in the "almost Melbourne" part of Palm Bay, you could try checking out the beachside areas in Indialantic or thereabouts. The $750k won't come with acreage there, but it'll be much more accessible to the beach and restaurants. On the downside, you'd be commuting across the causeway at the same time as lots of other people, probably.

Could live on the water off us1 if good schools aren't an issue.

If good school district is desired, would recommend indialantic or other areas beachside, or viera
