Melbourne has more diversity in both its people and in housing prices. It's more spread out with a larger foot print. You are likely to find more affordable housing. It has more jobs because there are larger companies located here.
If you ask me, they are very different areas, with different vibes and price points.
Nypafl4u is spot on. I have family who live in Melbourne and on Merritt Island. Just like anywhere there are good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods, but I think it is a really nice area overall. Jupiter is on my personal list of places to consider living at, but it is getting ridiculously expensive. For me, I want the warmer temps, and I am a golf nut. Jupiter is golf Mecca.

If I was looking at the Melbourne area I’d consider looking in to the Viera community.

"C&R" is short for "clobbered and robbed."
Oh please. Sensationalized much? Not to mention the fact that I've heard she lives in Melbourne Beach. Guess she likes to stay close to the action.

Specialists doctors and hospitals: we have an abundance of medical centers, several hospitals, and rehabilitation centers:

Holmes/Health-First - Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera, Rockledge (?)
Kindred Hospital
Wusthof - Melbourne, Rockledge
Omni Health
Brevard Health Alliance
Sea Pines Rehab

Research on google for your needed specialty doctors and which hospital those doctors hold active admitting privileges with.

Do check with your health insurance.

I checked out the source. Had never seenthe TV show before. Hardly any were from Melbourne. Mostly cases from 30 to 40 years ago from all over Florida. One from Melbourne was a family killing that happened in a different state so not much of a danger to anyone thinking about moving here 40 years later.

Melbourne, FL has a famous birthplace -

Jim Morrison of The Doors

2100 Vernon Place

It's near Babcock Street and 192 - down the street from Suntrust Bank.

I would also go to the town website and look at the crime reports / maps. Tons of info there, especially in looking at a specific street or area where you are looking to buy. I live in Jupiter now (just moved from east side of Delray Beach), and I can say that this is a very well run town - clean, good schools and services, and top notch medical care. I had major surgery at Jupiter Medical and was very happy with the quality of care there. It has gotten ridiculously expensive though.

I like Dayle's episodes. Sensationalized, NOT. In fact what I like is the lack of XS drama. Way better than Forensic Files. I think that one detective (Melbourne? The blonde one) had the hots for her. Called her in for every little excuse, lol.

But you see how many old people get clobbered and killed around there? And they're always parolees. Scary place. No thanx.

Let's see, according to city-data, there was 1 murder in Melbourne in 2019 and it didn't give an age. I guess 1 is a lot if you're the victim. Stastics are almost useless unless given in context. For example, Viera would be lumped in with Cocoa although Viera is very desirable whereas Cocoa is far from it. Look up the stastics for Cocoa. I'd take the opinion of Rabflmom who has been in the area for many years over someone who has to sell videos.

Thank you.

Like I have always said. This area is not full of crime for the regular person. If you are experiencing a lot of crime....look at the choices you make.

If you do drugs, buy drugs, sell drugs just like anywhere you may end up in a crime.

If you go in a store and flash a wad of money around a person who does do drugs might look at you for their next fix. Don't allow distractions-stay focused.

If you don't mess with anyone else's girlfriend/boyfriend or spouse, you will probably be ok.

If you don't have a person who is mentally ill in your family that you tick off you will probably be fine here.

If you use regular precautions like not walking down a dark street in the wrong neighborhoods in the middle of the night or leave a purse in your shopping cart , you will probably be ok.

Like everywhere lock your car doors and house doors.
Don't leave your garage door open.
Don't leave stuff out in the front yard or in your car.

Get to know your neighbors. Especially your older ones because we are home more now and if we see someone come hook up your boat etc when you are at work, we will call you to see if one of your friends is supposed to be doing that.

One other thing at the beach....do not think your cell, camera, wallet etc hidden under a towel or in your beach bag is a good idea . Not everyone here are good people-including the tourists.

Most of the ones I recall were on or near that main drag (Federal Hwy?). I presume the tony coastal areas are not a place a parolee would want to be seen milling around.
